Subject: HO Cams Dyno? .... Yates? IP: Logged
Message: Hey has anyone actually dyno'd their truck with JUST the HO cams and not the intake?
Yates: You have just the cams don't you? no intake? Have you dyno'd it since you put the cams in?
I've seen stock dynos, and dynos with HO cams, HO intake and PCM flash .. but that's it.

Message: yes...but don't forget that KRC tested them on a truck which already had an airaid intake, a 70mm tb and a cat back exhaust, I suspect the numbers maybe slighlty different on a bone stock 4.7 but probably not much

Message: It was my truck we did the test on with the HO Cams. The set-up was stock 68mm TB and air hat.,Stock exhaust (all three cats)The IAT box was off for the run,I did install a set of fresh plugs and run 44 lbs of air in the tires.
We got the true numbers for the cams.

Message: to add to what I said earlier...
I don't believe the airaid, tb and cat back add 10rwhp, probably more like 5. An airaid intake may well make less horsepower than stock intake, going from a 68mm tb to a 70mm tb only creates a few extra horses, and I believe cat-backs have been dynoed at a 1-2 horsepower increase with a loss in torque. So assuming their particular test truck did indeed begin with around 178-181 rwhp (as they never baseline dynoed the truck stock)we are most likely looking at closer to 18 rwhp horsepower and probably closer to 30 lbs of torque!

Message: I put my cams in yesterday along with 3923 plugs. My truck does have more power and strangely enough, it runs smoother! It's the HO cams from the 2002 jeep and the part number confirms this. The only performance shop with a dyno within a 80 mile radius of Chico (rural area) went out of business so this is strictly butt dyno info. Running smoother with wilder cams!?!? I think my truck is haunted.
Happy Halloween

Message: Bruce,
Did you do the work yourself or hire it out? And if you did it yourself, was it easier than you figured it would be? I only ask these questons for those that haven't done it yet and are and are a bit timid about doing them.
I had no problem installing mine and enjoyed the time doing it. It took me 5 hrs, but I was also helping others at the hobby craftshop when they would have questions or problems on their self help jobs.

Message: Oh yea,
I have a 4.7 auto CC 3.92 LSD, a Mike Leach "flash" and the HO cams without the intake, a K$N drop-in AF, Gibson 3" single-out catback, 3923 autolite plugs, synthetic mobil 1 and Redline rear-end fluid.
I was worried that the "flash" would not except the cams (should have gotten the cams first). But so far, it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm happy that the mods all get along. My next mod is the Kenne Bell supercharger (Chistmas present). S/C and the "flash" might be in conflict, We'll just have to see what happens. (I think a may be looking at a re-flash or use what Kenne Bell sends in the kit).
It looks like I have to go to Sacramento to get my current mods dynoed. I'm going to do a before/after dyno with the S/C to see what the numbers/power curves really are.
I'll post the results when I do.

Message: Yates,
I did it myself, However it took me about 9 hours to do it (slow class and I'm never in a hurry). I used your directions and instructions posted by another member about 2 months ago. It wasn't as hard as I thought, I just took my time (nice day to be outdoors) and followed the directions. I also didn't need the wedge.

Message: Wow .. surprised at the amount of response.
Yes I've seen the peak hp/tq numbers on the KRC website ... but I'm waaaay more interested in the profile of the dyno curve ... what it looks like. I don't care about the dyno numbers .. just the dyno sheet. Numbers tell you nothing.
I emailed Marty a few months back to see if I could get a copy of the dyno sheets, but he said they didn't have them anymore ...
R.L. Stuart: do you have the dyno sheet still?? could you send it to me or post it somewhere?
Yates: Even with all the other things you've done to your truck, I think the profile of the dyno curve would still largely be governed by the cams & stock intake ... the KB Opti II may increase the top end a bit more, but I would guess that it simply displaces the TQ curve up, keeping the same or a similar profile.
So I guess to answer my own question .. no one has any dyno sheets? except maybe RL Stuart?
