Subject: Hypertech IP: Logged
Message: Found out today that the Hypertech controllers for 96-2001 Dakotas or Rams, is only for the 5.2 and 5.9. No 4.7 stuff, the rev limiter can be moved up or down 500 rpm, the speed limiter is bumped to 128, there are two calibrations, 89 octane and a 93 octane, and tire size from 24" to 44" tires. No tranny control and only one VIN stock PCM can be used per controller, if you set the Hypertech modified stock controller back to factory specs, then the VIN gets erased and you can use the Hypertech on another Ram or Dak of the same year only. It will not work on a Mopar controller no matter what VIN number you teach the PCM. Still, it's an option for the 2001 guys and the 4x4 guys who were discontinued by Mopar Performance. Thought you'd like to know....

Message: some questions.
1- how much power does it give?... REAL power, not hypertech's numbers
2- what is the max RPM's that you can raise the limiter to?
3- will it work with a 5 speed (i dont see why not, but just thought i'd ask)
-Eric Injection is nice, but i'd rather be blown. 5.2L, 5speed. Powerdyne SC, 50mm TB, 2bbl M-1, 1.7RR's, MSD 6BTM, ciramic JBA headers, 3" carsound cat, dumped gibson

Message: #1) Around 8 rear wheel
#2) 5750
#3) Yes
Only for stock PCMs they say. I would like to be able to move the rev limiter on 5-speeds too Eric.
In all fairness though, the torque will be around 25 ft lbs. It will be a viable option to B&G's prices. Now if I could only get in this little box.....

Message: man, if you could hack the hypertech box, that would be the ticket!!! do you think it is possible?
5750, is a lot better than 5200.
thanks so much.

Message: Thanks KRC! Man 8 RWH is a far cry from there dyno claimed "22 rwhp" on the 01 5.9 Ram. Question..how do you think the Hypertech will act with mods such as headers, larger TB and 1.7 RR? Do you think that the Hypertech may advance timing to much for these mods(ie detonate?).
Thanks, Joey

Message: I think the big deal with the HyperTech (according to the Ram guys over at MoparChat) is not PEAK horsepower/torque improvements, but lower RPM improvements. HyperTech shows a 20+ ft/lb improvement at low RPM's (under 3,000) on a 5.2/5.9. I, for one, will wait a while to get a good cross-section of actual OWNERS before passing judgement.
