Has anyone played with the timing on the 4.7L yet? My radiator/fan assembly is off and I have the change to mess with mine, but I am wondering if anyone has had anyluck with advancing it a couple degrees?

Whoa guys don't get too excited.;) The crank sensor is in the block. It has a hole that goes into the crank case so altering it is almost impossible. The ICON ignition controller is the only way I know of.

Given the choice again, I would have done different. Biggest problem is no CARB exemption. It does have an advantage in length-shorter tube with one bend can mean less air pressure drop compared to longer tubes of the same diameter and with more bends. One thing I am planning is to box in the element and duct fresh air from the side of the condenser.

Price is right, I must say, and it looks and sounds good (with my exhaust it sends mommies running for their kids). Combined with the exhaust there are very noticeable gains.

Sorry to the others for off-topic.

ICON ignition controller is a separate overlay computer that wires into your truck. It has a laptop interface and lets you program in any spark curve that you want. Any ammount of retard or advance.

That's interesting ... it says though that it hooks up to the ignition coil .. which might make us SOL since we have 8 of them.

I sent them an email to see if its compatible with the 4.7L.

Good point I never even thought of that. I was assuming it was intercepting the crank sensor but never really looked at it that close I guess.

Well I finally heard back from ICON or superchips, or whatever ... looks like we are SOL. Here's what they said:

Hi, we checked it out with Superchips, your analysis of your vehicle was correct. You have a system we commonly refer to as COP (Coil On Plug). As a result there a separate control lines for each coil. The ICON is not designed for this.

Sorry, but thank you for your inquiry.

Thank you

Craig
