Subject: catback advice needed>>> IP: Logged
Message: I've got a '99 5.2 4wd that I bought new. It's been a great truck, but I'd like to add a catback system to give it a little more getup. The local muffler shop will do a 40's series Flowmaster with dual outlet, but it is a little too loud for me. They also carry Dynaflow ( I think that is the correct name) that they told me is not so loud. Is this brand a quality system? Also, what is the advantage of having a shop install a system versus a "kit"? The only kits I could find were for single pipes on the side. The shop system is for a daul outler in the rear of the truck. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Message: I have a Magnaflow. It's not too loud, has a nice low rumble. A lot of people on this board recommend MBRP.
2000 4.7 CC auto, clear corners, Magnaflow catback, Kenne Bell s/c.

Message: I have the MBRP dual cat-back exhaust on my Dak and I love it! www.mbrp.com is their website but Jonas from www.premierautomotive.com has the best prices.

Message: the nice thing about having the shop do it is it is all welded. no slip together and bolt typ of stuff. It looks real good and its custom. They bend each piece as they install the system, you dont have to worry about anything rubbing or leaking.

Message: If I were you I'd get a Mopar performance cat-back, which is basicly a Dyno-max, specificly engineered to your truck. It'll rip when you give her, and when you're cruizing, it'll mellow right out. It sound really good. you'll probably save money going direct to dyno-max though. Mopar wil rape you with price mark-up.
hope this helps.

Message: If you're going to a shop to get the pipes bent, make shure they're mandrel bends. Regular bends restrict air flow, not substancially, but all the major exhaust companies use mandrel bends. Just better flow.
hope this helps.

Message: Thanks for you answers. The national chain muffler shops in my area only stock Flowmaster 40 series (too loud for what I want. Another only stocks a brand called Ravin. A small independent exhaust shop can do a dual outlet catback with a Flo pro muffler. While I have never heard of that brand, the owner assures me it is a quality product, and they stock a muffler that will not be too loud. I am going to the shop in the next several days to check it out. By the way, the independent shop can do the system $150-$175 less than the national chains. Is this because it is not a nationally owned chain store ? The owner told me he uses comprable materials.

Message: He probablt uses not as good material, and the bends are probably made wit ha normal bender, not a mandrel bender. Make shure to see if the price is with mandrel bends, it's better for the flow.

Message: Lemme tell ya, MBRP Split Rear.. nice nice system, got it on my Motorsport Edition Dak CC, its nice and quiet nice rumble at idle, very clean, and once you step on it, people know what's going on! But its really quiet in the cab. I noticed one hell of a performance gain as well. I threw an intake on a while back, lost all my low end torqe, threw the cat back on, and gained it all back and then some! Go MBRP!
