Subject: "HAPPY-BALANCE" shocks

OK, I've had my new DAK for a couple of weeks now, and one thing is certain... even with the tire/handling package, the very obvious weak link is the highly under-performing shocks (DC must've had these left over from the Dart or the Reliant).

The "happy-balance" I'm looking for is a shock that'd allow for the little road imperfections to be diguised, but would stiffen up considerably after 1" or more of movement.

I've heard (so far) KYB or Rancho 9000's, but no one mentions a model number, never mind the characteristics of the ride.

I initially planned on a mild lowering, but have decided to leave the height alone, so "lowered" shocks aren't an option.

Eagerly anticipating your personal opinions and experience.

I have a 2001 quad 4x2 4.7 with the tire/handling package. I too disliked the stock shocks (cheap junk by Cofab). I got the ES9000 ProComp Shocks from 4wheelparts.com. They are great. My front end no longer bottoms out and cornering, etc is much better. They aren't too stiff or too mushy.
