I know some of you have been waiting quite a while for my update on installing this thing.

Well, it's finally installed and running. It was a small pain to install. I had to go to the Dealership to get the wiring schematics. I installed the unit right next to the PCM. The guy at the dealer wanted to know why I wanted to install it. I told him 11 mpg highway isn't ideal. I wanted to try something to bring it up. Well, don't waste your money yet.

No change to anything in my vehicle. I'm still pulling 11 mpg with no noticable gains anywhere else either. It may be I have other problems, but no D-C dealership has been able to figure it out yet. So there's my update. If anyone else has had luck, Please let me in on the secret.

Ouch. Not too much info on the Stacker system, but what the hell did you do to get 11 mpg?

What did I did?

First I moved to Washington and put my truck into long term storage. While there, someone dumped 5 gallons of gravel and about 2 dozen eggs into the gas fill line. D-C spent 22k miles trying to figure out why I was only getting 13 city 11 highway. Yep it sounds backwards. After it was figured out, and my gas tank drained and cleaned, and everything else replaced, I ran at 17 - 18 consistantly. I moved to Colorado and last winter when I started using the "Winterized" gas (10% Alcohol) it went down hill and never came back. Nuff Said.

I've had good luck with MSD boosting gas milage in my vehicles before, but they were High Milage mid '80's cars. Thought I'd give it a try here. Only thing I get at D-C is, "Well, we can't find anything wrong by the computer, but we've flashed your PCM again for the 15th time." "Don't you think it might be something not monitored by the computer causing the problem then?" "What? Hell no, boy! With these new engines, there ain't nothing thats not monitored by the computer."

That's what I got before, too. But until somthing actually breaks again, I'm stuck whith what it does. On the bright side, I just moved to Texas And with the bed loaded down and pulling a 4000lb+ trailer, it only dropped to 9.5 to 10.5 mpg. Not too shabby considering...

I know you have probably cheacked all this but have you checked engine vaccum and run compression test? It would seem like anything causeing that big of a difference in fuel consumption would show up on one of those two basic tests. I am assumeing that you are not throwing any codes??

Getting rid of the 10% alcohol will help. If it's a 2000, then have it flashed by Leach. That will advance the timing to 29 degrees base and tailor the fuel curve to respond very well. Added power plus the mpg. Mine went from 17/19.5 to 18.5/21.5 with just the flash.

Things I'm sure you've already done:
* Mobil-1 in the motor.
* Royal Purple 75w-90 in the rear end.
* 5-spd? Good. 3.90 rear? not so good.
* Tonneau cover
* K&N drop in or cool-air tube (I used Volant)
* 180 t-stat
* Clean the injectors regularly (were they ever replaced after atomizing gravel & eggs for 22,000 miles??!!)
* 40 psi front tires/35 psi rear tires
* Remove your clutch radiator fan and rely on the 180 t-stat/electric auxillary fan combo

Just a few thoughts...... jeez, that's an awful tale. Seriously, I think the flash from the factory is mostly to blame. Duner's truck acted up, he took it in and they retarded his timing to 15 degrees of base timing. He got a similar flash to the Leach flash (29 degrees base timing) and it gained 58 rwhp!! hahahahah

Good luck....

sandman? You aint the dude running around AADT are ya?

Naw, not thowing any codes. As for vacuum, I would need to get ahold of some spec sheet. I don't know what it sould be. I haven't found any Haynes or Chilton books for that truck yet. As for the "run consumption test," I haven't even heard of it. Any info on how to/who would do it, I'm game to get it done.

Alex,
sorry, I'm a Valvoline kind of guy. To be honest, though I've been running Havoline Synthetic ever since my mechanic switched. But now that I'm moved, I'll probably go back to doing it myself. I really can't see how that or the rear end oil would affect it that much. I have the auto tranny with the heavy duty towing package, so I think it may be running the 4.10 rear end. It's been a while since I looked it up.
No tonneau, stock everything else. With a t-stat change, I understand the PCM needs adjusting, mostly for emissions purposes. Big concern in CO. Most people I've talked with say K&N is a wase of time for 4.7 (just like this MSD). I BG 44k the injectors every 3-6k miles. That's all I've ever done to it.

Well, synthetic, whatever flavor is better for mpg (from what I've experienced). The 180 tstat will not require any pCM adjustment. It will adjust just fine on its own.... adaptive memory & all that stuff.

Granted with the auto and a 3.90 rear (the deepest available from the factory) you won't do much better than about 18 on the highway, but 11 sucks balls......

11 does suck. I'll see if it improves in this lower altitude.
