Subject: TB Voided My Warranty! IP: Logged
Message: So I went to the local dealership, looking for unrelated stuff, and in a brief conversation with one of the tech supervisor, he explained to me that with an aftermarket TB (my 70mm tb) that it will void any warranty on my vehicle.
And if I plan to claim anything on warranty related I should switch back to the stock one prior to bringing it in.
Is this true?
Not that it matters, cause once my cam and cylinder heads go in, it's all over with anyhow.

Message: Hey Livinonline
As far as I know aftermarket parts DO NOT VOID YOUR warranty unless they can prove that, that part caused the problem.
I know there is some law out there that protects buyers from this.....
Any one wanna do the foot work for to find the info on it.
FYI too....I always ask my guy down at the dealership, he's about the only honest guy on the eastcoast. Look at my mods and I still have full warranty coverage.

Message: Check out the SEMA site on this law. SUpposidly if the mod didn't cause the problom then it will be covered. I also heard a claim that if they can't find the cause then N2o could be blaimed for it. Glad I don't have a warranty to worry about anymore.

Message: Thanks for the ideas "DaveR",
straight from the SEMA.org site:
"Federal law sets forth requirements for warranties and contains a number of provisions to prevent vehicle manufacturers, dealers and others from unjustly denying warranty coverage. With regard to aftermarket parts, the spirit of the law is that warranty coverage cannot be denied simply because such parts are present on the vehicle, or have been used (see Attachment A). The warranty coverage can be denied only if the aftermarket part caused the malfunction or damage for which warranty coverage is sought. Disputes in this area usually boil down to arguments over facts and technical opinions, rather than arguments over interpretations of the law."

Message: Print that out and show it to Mr High-and-mighty Tech Supervisor. And if he argues it, ask to talk to -his- supervisor!

Message: Good luck arguing with a dealer and showing them the SEMA bull. If the dealer decides not to honor the warranty due to aftermarket parts, it's up to you to take legal action. Call up SEMA and see if they'll help you out. Ha:)

Message: You'd be amazed what calling Dodge about a dealer that won't honor a warranty will do. Even if there are aftermarket parts on the vehicle, as long as they did not cause the problem then the dealer is supposed to back the Dodge warranty.
We had an incident like this happen at a GM/Chevy dealership near where I live and after GM pulled up with a dozen car carriers and hauled the whole lot away, I think the dealer got the idea. Seems there had been mucho complaints to GM about the business practices going on at this dealer.

Message: Don't even bother with the parts department manager. Talk to the lot general manager, and tell him what you expect and know, and also (even if you don't mean it) that you will sue in order to claim punitive damages for them violating your rights as a consumer. I guarantee he'll listen up.
