Subject: More mods for more mpg? IP: Logged
Message: Alrighty! I have two mods in place now; a homebrew cold air intake and a Dynomax Superturbo muffler. A tonneau is next. What other mods can I do to improve the MPG? I'm mild to medium radical on the air pedal so no improvements there until I hit 80 yrs old. Will putting in a 180 deg. thermostat help?
BTW, I just had the Dynomax installed yesterday. WOOHOOO!!! Baby sounds shweeeet! Nice low throaty grumble most of the time with a tight roar when accelerating hard.

Message: Tim, what size engine do you have? I think relocating the IAT may help. I just did mine but I have not even been thru 1 tank of fuel, so Im not sure. What does anyone else think?

Message: Heya Racer,
My engine's a 3.9l. I was going to relocate the IAT but was told in another thread that doing so will decrease MPG since it's making the air/fuel mixture richer. However, in some other posts I read that it does improve MPG. I'm still trying to find the definitive answer. I'm hoping my post about additional mods will prompt some serious discussion on the various options.

Message: The muffler I got was #17797 which was what the Dynomax website stated was correct for my year/size Dak. WRONG! The inlet/outlet locations are correct (in=center, out=right offset) but the pipe sizes are too large at 2 3/4" where my stock pipes are 2 1/2". I didn't know this until muff shop called to tell me. It was an additional $12 for them to make the pipes fit with various fittings. I recommend you check out your current muff, check the location of inlet/outlet and measure the pipe diameters, then find it yourself at Summit Racing. I was lazy and paid extra cuz of it.
