CW,
I know you are a Chrysler Tech and you've helped me before, so I thought you would be the man to ask about this. I have 2000 Dakota QC 4x4 5.9L. I have had the 1-2 shift hitting the rev limiter problem for some time now, and first gear was completely gone for about a week. The truck would pull out in 2nd while in D, but would leave in 1st if manually shifted to 1. The transmission is stock. My dealer refuses to fix it, and says that he is not allowed to do repairs to the transmission unless a fault code comes up. He says Chrysler will not allow him to do anything to the trans without a code and without there (Chrysler) okay to repair it. Is this correct or is he shooting me a line of bull?
I only have 4,000 miles of warranty left and I need to get something done fast. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I had this problem with a 2001 qc 5.9. It not only would hit the limiter and not shift, it would also attempt to shift but the clutches would slip. First they changed the clutches, and it still did it. Then had a new trans put in.

This all occurred within the first three months of ownership. I think mine still has some eratic shifting but have an appoitment for him to look at the valve body to determine if it is the old one or not. I think the service manager committed to putting a new valve in if it is the old one.

Well unless DC rules have changed alot since I worked for a dealership, what does the code have to do with it, a code is strictly for diagnostic help and if you can duplicate the condition without a code so be it.

Can you duplicate it every time or at least with a tech in the vehicle? If so get a different dealer and call some of the numbers in your owners manual.

Jeff

I have called Chrysler about this, and they just call the dealer and he makes another appointment to do nothing. It does not do these problems all the time, but about 75% of the time it does do the hitting the rev limiter problem. I have used two different dealerships as well, and both say the same crap. I love Dodges, but I will never own another one if this service problem is not resolved. This is ridiculous.

You can probably fix this your self. You probably need a new govenor pressure sensor and solinoid. Very common thing on these transmissions. My 97 did this as well I ended up having to adjust the internal throttle pressure down a little. Try the sensors first.

The sensors are on the valve body its self very easy to get to. with the pan off.

Hey I just thought of something there is a TSB on this. Tell them to look up a TSB containing a wide open throttle bucking. It is titled something like that. Tell them to preform this TSB.
