Subject: 4.7 Performance IP: Logged
Message: Just found this web site. Very impressive.
Just ordered a Patriot Blue SLT+ CC 2x with the 5 speed, 3:55 limited slip and 4.7 engine. My first new ride since I sold my 79 Dodge Magnum back in 81 (Red with leather interior, T-top and 360 ci {back in the day when liter/litre didn't mean much to me}).
Any idea what kind of 1/4 mile times/speeds and overall top end the 4.7 will be capable of? Also, what will a fiberglass (Leer) cab high cap do for performance? Will the weight increase hurt much or will it be off-set by better airflow?
Any experiences will be appreciated.
Thanks
Anxiously waiting!

Message: that cap will actually hurt air flow - the only thing that has been proven to give better air flow is a tonneau cover.

Message: Speaking of tonneau covers, I'm looking at A.R.E.'s LSII with the sport wing...thoughts on what that will do for MPG, grip, and traction (extra weight over the rear axle) on my AWD/Auto/LSD/3.92 QC?
More interested in the sport wing for the looks, form over function, but any added performance benefits would be welcome.
Thanks.

Message: I'm going with the CheckMate cover. I think it is the best looking. Tonneau Covers showed a 6% dcrease in drag. Sure that would help you mileage a little. The extra weight over the axle seems like it will help a little also with traction. At the same time though, to much weight can be bad for racing reasons. The cover I'm looking at weighs less than 100 lbs including all hardware. Not to mention they have the best price. They do Group buys if anyone is interested. He said hed give me a $25 break if I bought two. Who knows what he'll do if we buy more.

Message: Since no one else wants to answer Chuck's question, I will. I don't own a 4.7, but from posts on this and other boards, a stock 4.7 usually gives times in the 15s. A lot depends on the gearing and the trans, with the 5-speed being a big boost over the auto. A few owners report high 14s, but usualy with some mods. It should be a pretty quick truck.

Message: First off Chuck, welcome. I too am new to the site. Like Jakitu said though, the quarter mile times are usually in the 15's, but with the amount of performance mods becoming available for the 4.7L, we'll see better than that. Congratulations on your new truck!
