Subject: Vanes Hines Headers IP: Logged
Message: I think I have spelled this corectly but I am not sure. these are the headers that I can get for like 15 bucks tested on the dyno of Arington motorsports supposedly they are the best money can buy. My friend says that they should fit no prob but he was not completly sure. The great thing about this is that I would be able to run a H pipe to equalize the backpressure and give it a much deeper tone. Should help a little in the power department. Not worried about the power but the sound should be quite unreal if it works

Message: The closest thing I have heard to this name is Vance & Hines. They make high quality motorcycle pipes. If they are making headers for cars, those would be more unique than the Kenne Bell headers that I have. Look for thick flanges where they bolt up to the heads. Thin flanges are more likely to give you problems with leaks......but for $15 bucks you could afford a lot of gaskets.

Message: Yeah those are them!!! My friend says that is what they ran last year when dodge ran the 318. Thanks for the sugestions about the flanges I will check that out!!!! also he may be able to get me some aluminum heads for about 30 bucks they have been used on the dyno only. He is not sure if they will fit or not.

Message: I'm betting they don't. I believe lando981 said that this was stuff from NASCAR testing. The 4.7 is new tch stuff and they aren't even close to considering the use of it in racing yet. Another problen is the maximum cubic inch for them is in the vicinity of 355. Stroking and boring a 4.7 up to a 5.8 hasn't been done yet.....although, I can't wait until they do. Overhead cams aren't accepted yet either.

Message: I had Vance&Hines pipes on a 1996 Suzuki Intruder 1400 and the sound was truly incredible! Deep, low growl - no "tinny" rapping, like Cobra's. Didn't need carb jetting either,(40 mpg!) and I could beat ANY Harley that challenged me... Argh, argh, argh!!!(Tim Allen grunt) VERY superior quality and performance!

Message: Will these headers fit an 89 Dodge 250 Van with a 5.2 without burning down the dog house? I tow a 24ft. race trailer with it and it does just fine except of course a little more poop out the tail pipe should help the low end. And we all know we could all use a little more towing power. Oh yeah, I ain't getting rid of the van for a little while more, not just yet.
Thanx for any help

Message: For $15 that's a pretty good deal. Check and make sure the flanges are straight before buying. If they are not, don't bother to install them even if they are free. Changing gaskets doesn't cost much. But, boy, is it a pain in the behind.
If the flanges are a little thin, you should strengthen them. Tak a strip of 1/8 x 1" strap steel, and weld it to the top of the flange at about a 45* angle and to the top of the header tubes. I used to do that to Hooker headers before they got smart and made them with thicker flanges.
