Subject: JBA HEADERS for 4.7 IP: Logged
Message: Is it worth the time and money to put JBA headers on a 4.7? I really want my truck to be louder and i want the performance. Is is a good idea to buy them or should I hold off?
Thanks for the input

Gibson makes stainless steel headers like the jba headers, but are alot cheaper($90).

Message: Headers do make power, but it may not be as noticable on the butt dyno as it is on the real thing. How could increased scavanging not be able to help? I bet you get 8-10 HP on the dyno from adding a set of headers.

Message: DD,
Easy 10hp or better. And most headers really help the low end torque a lot also. Shorty's are better than nothing and Full length are the best.
I just priced a set of JBA CAT4WARDS headers about 10 min ago for 4.7L and $395 for the headers and $143 for the Ceramic coating. Total $538. not to bad for ceramic coated headers that will give about 15hp do to the heat dispersment and the increased scavenging ability.

Message: Yea just headers will not make that much of a diff solo. It's a combination of things that 'GETS THE JOB DONE'.
By the time I buy about 175hp for my truck, 10 here, 15 there, 115 over yonder, etc. It will all make a difference, and the ET's will reflect every 10hp add on. I will be very happy with my ECONOMY P/U if I can get high 13's out of it, and still drive it to work every day and look good doing it.
Have a good evening,

Message: Horebedarn,
Have you removed your third cat? Also, that 72mm TB is probably hurting your performance. I don't see a T/C or a S/C listed in your mods, so why use such a huge TB? 70mm would be more than ideal. The IAT mod is good, as is the 180 T-stat. How about a custom flashed computer? Those would be your best bets (IMHO)

Message: I have a 2000 and they only put one cat on them. I did the Z-Tube, 72mm TB, headers, and the IAT and my 1/4 mile times didn't change at all. I bought the 72mm TB in anticipation of getting a T/C or S/C. I have not done the computer flash because with a T/C or S/C the advance they put on the timing would be too much. All of the cheap bolt on mods, not taking the engine apart, don't show much imporvement. They would with a T/C or S/C but not stand alone. If you aren't going to foot the bill for a T/C or S/C, the little mods are really a waste of money.

Message: I don't have JBA's, but do have Borla's on my 4.7L. I just found out today the driver's side is leaking for the third time in about two years.
Finding gaskets seems to be pretty hard. Looks like I'll be calling Borla directly tomorrow to get yet another set.
It is my opinion that the 4.7's manifolds flow well enough that you should leave them alone. I did mine after the KB Supercharger and still didn't notice any diff. in sound or performance.

The head gasket stick's out and it's like working with razor blades, you got to jack up the right side of the engine and take your time,If your like me you mite find your old exhaust manifold was leaking and the flanges also,I picked up 12 RWHP and about 2 MPG,I ported the heads, installed the HO cams and valve springs,70mm F&B TB,Built a new fiberglass air hat and box,ASE chip and Dynomax exhaust. Also had the TRANS service at 10,000 miles it was like adding a shift kit,you should see the crap that came out of it.

Message: signman-
I have the Borla's on mine too. They do seem to spring a leak on the driver side now and then. I have tried repeatedly to get a hold of Borla regarding gaskets. They have terrible customer service. I couldn't even buy a set from them because the wouldn't ever return my messages.
To make a long story short, I bought my gaskets from JBA. I realize Borla should be covering the gaskets under warranty for free, but I don't have the time to call them every day begging them for 2 frelling gaskets. JBA customer service was much better. I talked to a warm body the first time I called and had my gaskets in about 3 days. Cost me $30. You might try getting yours from JBA if the Borla well is dry....

I took a full second off of my G-tech times since this modification.

I think with the 3" cat and with the cams, the headers will prove to be more effective than just headers alone. But I bet you're right, better down pipes off the headers will help, too.

So basically 2.5" true duals all the way back to the MBRP tips? I still need my cat. I just read a story on how Atlanta is upping their emissions requirements. Now they're going to tap into the OBD2 port and let the computer tell how much emissions your car is producing. Holy F*ck.
You realize we're gonna want to see that ET slip from the track. G-Tech is one thing, but....
