Ok, i've tolerated it for awhile but i'd like to find a way to quiet this thing down a bit. Any ideas? I read somewhere that somebody put a Dynamat strip on the shifter rod underneath the boot. That sounds like the best idea i've read so far.

Any others? I don't mind a little gear noise, but it's pretty ridiculous right now.

I wold take some of that Dynamat and wrap both the rod coming out of the shifter mechanism, and the shifter itself where the two bolt together. Also, if you can find some, use some rubber washers between the bolts and their washers, or cork... that should insulate it pretty good. If your feeling -real- adventurious, get a size smaller bolt and a nylon insert for the bolt holes to eliminate metal-on-metal there as well. But you may have to experiment with that one.

i used the factory rubber insulation over the hurst boot,it is racier sounding than stock but not annoying.it fits snug and does not hinder shifting!

I guess I was too wacky about the noise. I really did like the way it worked and the better shifting, it's just that the ride is so smooth and quiet in my Dak (97 4wd even w/ mickey thompson's) that the noise drove me nuts... I had to replace it with the stocker...
