Subject: Superchips ICON controller vs. IP: Logged
Message:
Is the Superchips ICON controller really that much better than an ignition box with adjustable boost retard?
For instance, which would be best for the street (and occasional drag race)? A high-output ignition (MSD, Accel, Crane) with the ICON controller or a high-output ignition with an in-cab boost control (turn knob style)?
Thanks,
Chuck Robbins

They are still available through Speedtweaks and KRC Performance though or at least that's what their websites say.
I saw that announcement on Superchips website as well and am not sure if the ones offered through the above sites are the same or if they bought a bunch and still have some for sale.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear in my initial post. I'm referring to timing retard ... not boost retard. Not enough coffee today :-)
I'm going to go with a Vortech s/c this winter and the kit I'm getting comes with a Crane HI-6 TR ignition system. The Crane comes with adjustable timing control and I'm wondering if I would be better off trying to substitute the ICON controller for the Crane. I already have the MSD 6A and Accel coil.
Thanks,
Chuck Robbins

Message: No the icon is only RPM based in the retard the crane is boost based in how it retards. With the crane it only retards when the boost is on. The icon would be retarding all the time.
