You need a 1/4 inch pipe plug. Its acctually 1/2 inch diameter. I dunno why that call it 1/4 but it is a half inch dia. at the threads. I went to the local True Value hardware and got it for about a buck. Not sure what thread size. Just get it and it should work.

The hole size is 1/4" FIP. (female iron pipe)

Any 1/4" pipe plug will work. Iron, brass, S/S, plastic.

take this from a machinist in the know, 1/4 NPT translates out to National Pipe Taper the NPS designation is also used and means National Pipe Straight. I have been doin this for 30 years and never heard of FIP before. Neither the Machinist Handbook or the Pipe Fitters Bible lists FIP for anything. The 1/4 size comes from the internal size of the pipe, meaning that the hole through the middle is 1/4". As far as material use anything that handi1 lists, it will all work.

As a retired Master Plumber, Pipe Fitter, Welder, and Medical Gas Installer let me explain "FIP", "MIP" ect. Even if it's off the subject.
Female Iron Pipe and Male Iron Pipe terms are used when ordering fittings. They can be in any material. Plastic, SS, Galvanixed, on and on.
Examles.......................................

A pvc male adapter would be ordered as a "socket x mip adapter".

A pvc female adapter would be ordered as a "socket x fip adapter".

Or you could have a stainless steel 90 degree fitting as 1/4 x 1/2. It would be a 1/4 mip x 1/2 fip ss 90.

Or you could have a 4x4x2x11/2 double side outlet tee but I'll stop for now.
