FIPK is the airhat, tube and filter. Gen II, I believe is the heat shield.

Yes, the FIPK (Fuel Injection Performance Kit) and the K&N Gen II are the same...rumor has it the Mopar Cold-Air Induction system is a re-branded GEN II...most folks say the Gen II is the best system as it replaces the stock airhat (Intense Performance (not even a heat shield) or Airaid, don't replace the airhat

There is the normal FIPK which just replaces the filter box and uses the stock hose. Then there is the Gen II FIPK that is the same as the normal FIPK but also includes the performance air hose. They have diagrams and pictures on their web page that show and describe this.

Has anyone had any problems out of the stock computer chip when they put some sort of intake on. One of my buddies is claiming that they cause the chip to mes up. Has anyone got rear wheel numbers on the K&N FIPK. This FIPK is prolly more a help to the gas tank than it is a gain at the rear wheel.

I believe there are dyno numbers for the K&N FIPK though I don't have them. They are helpful both in the RWHP and the MPG area because the stock intake is extremely restrictive. The bigger help, however, is done by adding a cat back exhaust system to complement the intake. After you do these things it doesn't hurt to reset your PCM to take full advantage of the difference in the anmount air being presented to the engine.

One doesn't have anything to do with the other. There are posts on this forum on how to do that.

lando, when you put any performance part on your truck (intake, exhaust, ect...) its best to reset your computer. just disconnect your battery for about 20 min. and hook it back up.

You don't know. That's why it's suggested that while you have the neg. battery cable disconnected, you turn your key to START and hold for 15 seconds to drain the capacitors.

Once you reset the PCM starts using the basic tables since it has no other memories to go by. That usually means you're running slightly rich and probably feel a little more pull, at least until your PCM gets used to your habits again.

so..... That means if you reset the pcm and give it hell a lot then your pcm will be used to making your engine run rich, making a little more power than it does now. Just wondering? Also My dad has the 3.9 in his dakota 4x4 and he has flowmasters and K&N on his truck. But he never reset the pcm. Do you think that would help his truck. He said that he never really felt any kinda change at all when he put them in. Even if did it would be minor. I'm only 19 and have a lot of stuff to learn, thanks for all yalls help.

What you have to remember here is the PCM is constantly "learning". Over time everything smooths out because like you, it updates when you're driving safe and sane as well as when you're racing. As for you Dad not resetting when he did his updates, it also smooths out over time. It would have been helpful if he did it right then but after all this driving (I assume he did this awhile ago) the PCM knows. The other thing is: You can't hurt the PCM by resetting it. It'll learn from scratch. However, there are times when you should reset it and you could hurt something by not doing it. An example is when you R&R your IAC. There is no way you can tell how to initially set your IAC. Only your PCM can. Your PCM doesn't know to do that unless you reset it. That means if you install a new IAC chances are your Dak won't know how to idle correctly, if at all, without that reset.

Thanks RonW. Well should I reset the pcm on my truck to let the pcm learn how I drive it or will it just over time learn how I drive. I bought it from someone else bout 3 weeks ago.
