Subject: HO conversion, cams, intake? IP: Logged
Message: To those who have done this already.
I feel I'd get more out of the cam, and may not go with the intake.
Is/can you tell a physical or flow difference between the two intakes?(not the tube on the outside of the TB we all call intakes)
So question is, would I be OK just going with the cams and other mods, without the HO intake plenum?
Thanks in advance
01 QC 4.7 5spd LSd no belt fan, ported TB, AIT adjuster(turned off), homebrew K&N intake. 180t-stat

Message: So far I have only the CAMS and I am doing the intake tomorrow. The cams alone make a huge difference but I can feel and hear where it wants more flow at the higher RPM's now... So I guess the answer is that you can do them one at a time without a problem. After tomorrow I will know if it is worth the hassle for the intake.. I hope it is all I have heard.

Message: The HO Intake will help out some, but you will ultimately be limited again by one of the following things:
1. Intake air box
2. Exhaust too restrictive
3. Cylinder heads not free flowing enough
If you've got better exhaust and a cold air intake, then your cylinder heads will really need to be spruced up to keep up with the demand and your overall higher state of tune.

Message: I have already done the intake (K&N clone) and the exhaust a bit (Gibson split rear cat-back). I am planning to do the engine a bit then do the convertors and maybe headers as well. Like I said... I'll know tomorrow...

Message: Chris,
I'll check back to the board later this weekend.
After your intake install, please let me know an honest difference.
You can e-mail me, or post here or both.
Thanks,
Todd

Message: I did the HO cams and intake install on my 4.7L and love it. The cams increased low end torque as well as around 20 ft/lbs throughout the entire torque curve. The intake really helps out when you hit the 5200+ RPM mark. With a 3" intake with a K&N cone filter and 3" single cat-back with Delta Flow 50 series Flowmaster muffler I can now shift near the 6000 RPM range without losing power. The estimated number is around 15 more HP in the top end. I plan on freeing up the cat now to help it breathe that much more. I will be posting pictures of the install on www.speedtweaks.ca so stay tuned.

Message: Ok, I got me the cams, gonna put them in Sat, my main concern is that I want more torque. Should I stay away from the HO intake manifold, or would it help me?? I got 4900lbs of 4x4 QC to move out, and I tow a trailer sometimes. Suggestions always welcome!!

Message: Chris,
Thanks for your input, as well as others.
Chris, So I get from your posts that each enhanced the 4.7 separately. That's nice to know. It seems that reading between the lines, the intake made you lose some of the low end again. Or did it leave it and gain even more top end. Honestly now.
01 QC 4.7 5 spd, HB intake, p&p TB,
soon to have HO cams, and then maybe the intake.

Message: Todd,
I think that the intake did lose some of the low end but no where near what the cams gained me. Overall my truck now makes power from about 2300RPM up where as with the stock setup it only came in around 3k. PLUS the top end is stronger as well.

Message: Thanks Chris,
When I get the cams, I'll probably start with them, as I don't race really at all in my QC, SLT.
Soon to get a shell cover for the bed, etc.

Message: Olznut.... I would save the money on the intake manifold if you're looking for down low towing grunt. The HO intake manifold has pretty much proven itself to enhance power from 3000 rpm on up and push the useful rev range to 5500+ rpm. The cams, however, will give you power all the way across the board.
You can e-mail Matt Barret from the DML and he has dyno graphs with the cams & intake in place together. Marty at KRC Performance can fill you in on the "just cams" power curve.

Message: Hi Guys,
Thanks for the vote of confidence you have given
my company. In an effort to save you all some time and money, I wanted to let you know you can
order your cams and intakes from our web site, which will save on some long distance calls. It is metrododge.com. Just give me your info and I'll call you. By the way I am shipping 2nd day air and insuring the shipment as well. I have just special handled some more cams in for stock, and basically cleaned out almost all of the National PDC stock across the nation. Let me know if I can be of assistance.
Thanks Again,
Chuck Sr.
P.S. The reason for Sr. is my son works here as well.

For BOTH cams?
Handi2,
I got them at the Dodge in Wakefield R.I. over the phone.
First, I want to know if your grill inserts on your dak are the homebrew, poofed out ones, and if so, could you e-mail, or link me to the directions about the cut out boards again?
And no, I don't think it comes with the chain wedge tool. I'm going to use a block of wood, or just make sure it's timed right before I crank it. I've done cams before, just not for a living.
