at what degree is this supposed to come on? i was checking it today and i turned on my A\C and i thought it was supposed to come on then ... but it didnt ... so i let it warm up(with A\C on) till it reached 215 but the fan never came on ... the clutch fan works... just not the Electric backup fan... should i go have it checked out? or does it kick in at a higher temp?

It should come on w/the A/C at any temperature. There is something wrong. I believe that it comes on at 210 w/the A/C off. But still, you have a problem.

The electric fan is the PRIMARY fan. The clutch is the seconday fan.

Unless of course yours isn't the stock one. If it is something is amiss.

jjj i dont how the eletric fan would be considered Primary... primary means MAIN and if the electric fan was MAIN then it would be on ALL the time... the clutch fan is on ALL the time so i would think that it would be the MAIN(Primary) fan and since the electric fan comes on only when the temp is 210 or more or if the AC is being used that (to me) should be considered Secondary... at least thats my 2cents.. thanks for setting me straight

BlueCC00RT,

The crank fan isn't really on until it locks, if you have ever stuck you head under the hood of a 99 or older you would see what I mean :)
Feels like a wind tunnel even at idle with the older setup. So ideally you don't need a fan until you temp reaches XXX degrees, so they now use the electric for a/c and normal cooling with the crank fan as support if you start to overheat. Even spinning slowly it moves some air but very little, I only run the electric on my 01 5.9 QC and haven't had any problems. However I am not opposed to running at 210 in traffic like some are.

In the end your electric should be coming on and if it isn't then there is a problem. Check relays first and go from there.

look in the power distribution box on the drivers side fender well. you should be able to swap the fan relay with any other relay that isn't used all the time. ie, windshield wiper, hazard lights, etc.
