the kit i got (96-99 trucks.. mine is a 98, so it should be cool) came with a hobb switch to connect to the relay. from what i gather this switch only turns on the extra fuel pump when under boost.
on the 2000's they dont have this hobb switch, and the extra fuel pump comes on whith the stock one.

when we first hooked it up, we didnt use the hobbs switch, and the pump came on with the stock pump.

HERE IS WHAT IS HAPPINING... the truck runs good when not in boost, but as soon as it sences boost, it just falls on its face. it feels like i hit a revlimiter or something (im not!) it is not detonating, so thats good. i pulled the plugs this morning, and they look still new. (i put the 3922's in saturday night)

i hooked up the hobb switch the way it says in the manual, and it does the same thing...WTF?

i think it ran good 3 times (only hit 5#'s because of the belt slipping). 2 times without the switch, and 1 time with it.

i have checked all connections at least 3 times, and the grounds are good.

any info, or tips will be apriciated!!

I would be looking at the FMU, If it's bypassing back to the tank it will fall on it's face under boost.

Just a thought...

The MAP sensor will work in the stock configuration; you just get a smoother transition when moded.

The way I tested my FMU...

Unplug the vacuum line to the FMU
Unscrew the vacuum adapter into the FMU
With the ignition on lightly press the little plunger inside the FMU with something like a pencil eraser and watch you pressure gauge. It should spike uppwards around 80 to 100 PSI.

Not saying it's the right way but just they I do it.

You might want to disconect the FMU vacuum line and run up to boost once and see if it changes... Don't run too long under boost but long enough to know if it's the FMU. It will go lean but it souldn't detonate on you untill about 4psi.

Just dawned on me ... if you just installed BTM then disconnect that as well and narrow it down to whats really causing the problem.

I don't have a hobbs switch either, but Where are you picking up the vac/boost signal for the switch? Also do you know that if you hooked the aux. pump up backwards (pos. on neg. and neg. on pos.)it will run backwards? I also agree with Eyetrip about the BTM, what is that set at?

did you bypass the map to the fmu. if not get it off speedtweaks it help mine. old 99 v-6 s/c dak.now the 02 r/t cant find belt that fit the one is to small. slipps i need the tensior on. it any one got a pep boys belt #

eyetrip, i am going to disconect the FMU vaccume line tomorrow and see what happens

also, i had the BTM set at 1, then i unplugged it, and nothing changed.

Lew360, i have the 2bbl M1, and im getting the signal for the boost guage, hobbs switch, and the FMU from the manifold. (no plugged vaccume lines BTW either)

the fuel pump is hooked up right. i checked it like 3-4 times.

MIKE, i have my MAP sencor running to the manifold instead of the throttle body.

EVERYONE, i think it might be the relay. what do you guys think? all of the grounds, and powerleads are tight and verrywell connected. it goes into boost like 1 in 25 times. maby the relay has a loose connection in it?

Does it do this with the aux. pump coming on with the stock pump? (without the hobbs switch.) I am thinking maybe the hobbs switch. Also by saying it falls on its face, that almost sounds like it is loading up on fuel, or am I way off?

yes it does it without the hobbs switch too. same thing.

i was also thinking of it running extreamly rich, but i pulled the plugs and they look new still, not black like it was running rich, and when if falls, no black smoke comes out the back.

i will unplug the vaccume line to the FMU tomorrow, and if it still does the same thing. if it does, that will end all posibilities that it is running rich. (i think)

Yeah, that should end the questions about it running rich. It is starting to sound like the relay or something is pulling all the timing out. It is kind of hard to diagnois without laying hands on the truck. Sorry I can't be of more help. I know what it is like to put it together and it not run right.

i dont think it is doing anything with the timing. it feels like when it hits the rev or speed limiter.. like all fuel is cut off. i dont think it is running lean, because there is no detonation... i think it is just being shut off.

i will check the pump again tomorrow to make sure its hooked up right... i know it is, but it will not hurt.

thanks for all of your advice guys.. i know how hard it is to help when someone says " yeah, it makes a clank, then a sputter"...lol

i disconnected the fmu and plugged the vaccume line. i took it for a spin and it was doing the same thing.

im getting a fuel pressure guage this weekend, and we can see if the pressure goes up or not when it hits boost.

im thinking its a bad relay. i think that would be the only thing (other than backwards fuel lines) that would cut off the fuel

I was thinking the same thing about backwards fuel lines. If the relay is bad and the pump doesn't come on at all then I guess when the fmu tries to spike pressure the stock pump can't push that much fuel. Plus the regulator on the pump only allows 42-49 psi so the spike could cause the stock pump to shut down. Just a few more guesses. Hope I was helpful.

eye trip, how hard is the plunger in the fmu to push down? i tried to push it down (with the truck off) and i couldnt budge it. is it sopose to be that hard to push?

It shouldn't be that hard .... Just a slight two finger assault with a pencil eraser end is all I use.

If the FMU isn't working it should still run under boost, just lean and crappy. (Mine would even with stock injectors) Unless your fuel pressure is on the ragged edge below normal from a FMU leak. I unplugged my fuel pump and started it, well it idled until pressure came down to 25PSI.

I'm thinking you should disconnect the discharge tube from your charger to the airhat and drive around the block. That will narrow a few things down. The real suspicion I have is your BTM.

Is your limitation RPM related? (Can you ease up to 5000RPM ok)? Or pressure related? WOT above 3000RPM. (Should see positive boost above 3000RPM)

One more thing, check your cap and rotor for ANY damage or cracks. Under boost your ignition is more critical and spark tensions are greater, spark will go to least resistance. Seeing it's like a limiter that scenario will be cap, rotor, coil wire and coil.

Sorry about the long post, it's hard for me to try to troubleshoot over the Internet; I'm a "Hands on" type. It sux when your toy doesn't work! I hope you find this useful.

i can ease it up to 4,500 rpm with no problem with it not in boost.

i have the blaster ss coil mounted to the back of the pcm bracket.. would that do anything?...ill look at the cap and rotor too

The discharge tube is the pipe between the supercharger and the air hat. You might be thinking of the bypass valve.

What happens when you WOT up to 4500rpm?

What kind and how big is it? Where is it mounted? If the filter collapses because of getting sucked into itself it will act the way you have described. The same goes for the tubing if it's mounted remotely.

eyetrip, at WOT at 4500 sometimes it get 5-6# of boost, but most of the time it cuts out. like if its not getting any spark, fuel, or air.

duner, the filter is off of my FIPK. its real big. the filter is placed besidet he blower and i have removed the rubber flap beside the radiator, to get more air

You will probably have to go thru some trial and error to diagnose the problem.

Does the problem happen when you just roll into the throttle slowly or when you floor it quickly. Does the problem only happen when in boost or does it fall sometimes before getting to boost.

Remove the air cleaner and try it.
Remove the air hat or discharge tube and try it. (you won't get boost, but will be able to make sure that the problem is boost related)

it never has a problem when not in boost. if i gradually roll into boost, it seems to work better.

i will remove the air cleaner, and the tube going to the TB. i am also going to put the stock coil back on and bypass the msd alltogether to rule out the ignition.

also, i have gotten 6#'s of boost in about 85 degree heat with no timing pulled out and have not got any detonation. i know that is good, but is it normal?

no helpfull tips here, but critasism, u wasted ur money.(period)

P.S even if u did get the sc to work properly with boost as low as 6# on an engine not desiged,engineered,nor properly modified for it,what would ur 1/4 mi. times be? 13's. ooooh!
for the $ u spent on that sc + the head gskts + bolts and the time u spend trial and error engineering it due to limited knowledge, u couldhave purchased a 318 magnum crate motor+a tunnel ram and 2x 650cfm carbs and built it up in ur garage piece by piece, I would guess ur engine now is getting tired any -ways. bolt-ons=crap.
