 Subject: Flowmaster 50 Series

2001 V6 3.9
I installed a new Flowmaster 50 series muffler in place of the stock muffler, no other changes were made (same pipes). It sounds okay at idle however, at 50-70 mph & during acceleration it sounds like a damn honda. Any suggestions on a replacement muffler or what I can do to improve the Flowmaster?

Chunk the flomaster!
Get a muffler that is packed with some type of insulation like fiberglass. That will give you the growl when you want it and the non-honda type of noise when your just driving around town. There are lots of straight thru mufflers like this: magnaflow, borla, dynomax, etc. Even Gibson would work for your application.

I don't know why so many folks keep on installing Flowmasters. Just about everyone who does gripes about it later...too loud, rattly, loss of torque, even seams coming apart at 5,000 miles are all things I've read about them. They sound like junk to me. I know that they're full of baffles and other crap inside them, which doesn't seem conducive to a good muffler design. IMHO, I think the best muffler choice would be the Magnaflow stainless or Dynomax Ultra Flo, and maybe the Borla or MBRP thrown into the mix just to confuse things. I've heard sound clips of Chevy V6's with the Magnaflow, and they sound nice.

Sounds like a Ricer Huh? that is cause you have a 6 banger Chump! Ya shoulda bought a v-8 Dak, mine sounds SWEEEEET! FLOWMASTER is a awsome piece. I get alot of compliments from my sweet sounding exhaust. Ihave logged over 10 k miles on my 02 and no probs, 30,000 on my 2k Dak no probs with the mufflers. So take your smart comment and eat it Moron.
