Subject: Help with gear ratios IP: Logged
Message: I've been reading a lot about how different gear ratios can really affect your performance, but I'm just wondering how it works? People say that 3.55s are not as good as 4.10s(I think that's right) for example. Does this give better acceleration, or higher top speed? How difficult would it be to switch from one to the other? Thanks.

Message: its not that one is better than another, it just that they do differant things.
here is a good way to explaine it... take a moutain bike for example, if you start out in a high gear, it is hard to get up to speed, but once you do you can maintain a higher top speed, and your legs dont have to work as hard to keep that speed.
if you start out in a low gear, you can accelorate very quickly, but you also have to pedle faster to maintain speed.
the 3.55's will accelorate slower, but at highway speeds the rpm's will be lower and you will save gas
the 4.10's will do the oppisite

Message: Thanks - that makes sense.
I think I'll go for the acceleration!

Message: good deal... do you have a auto or 5 speed?
