Message: I hate to be a jag, and spam, buty I'm really screwed, and need help ASAP
my sister took my truck out, now all of a sudden it starts in bothe Park, and neutral, but in park I can only rev to about 2000 (compared to redlinning it), reverse goes no where (it revs but doesn't back up), neutral is a drive, so are the drive gears.
what do I do to fix this, or at least be able to get it to neutral where I can push it back and get it out of the way so I can get my aunts car out of the way

Message: 1) why on earth would you redline your engine unloaded??? you must have a death wish for it. sounds like you floated some valves-very dumb thing to do.
2) sounds like sis trashed your tranny. lesson #2-don't let anyone drive your vehicle.
hope it's under warranty!

Message: Damn, I have the exact same symptoms with my truck. You must have a Gen II V6 huh? Mine got toasted with me hauling a bunch of stuff for friends in the last few weeks. It started out by just being harder to move the shifter, now it moves freely but r is like a trans brake and n gives me first gear.
I'm going on thurs to talk to the guy that rebuilt my trans last.

Message: I only run it to the red in park or nutral for a second once in a long while, and as soon as it hits the red I stop.
Usually my sister is good in my truck
Geoff if I get it done tommorrow, I'll tell you what I did

Message: Ck your transmission cable adjustment. You could disconnect the shifter linkage at the trans {with the engine off} and manually shift it from under the car. manually shift the trans to park and adjust your cable to fit.

Message: 88 Dak, This is no shifter problem. It's probably the first gear band or some clutches frozen in place. It is deffinitely an internal problem.
