Subject: Helix Spacers vs. new TB

I have seen a Helix Power Tower Spacer at Summit Racing for about $90. Does anyone have any insight into these? I am looking for a quick add on without dumping the money into a new TB right now and for $90 they claim up to 20 HP. PLus I can keep the exiting 3" Z TUBE. Thoughts??

Spacers don't work on most Dodge engines, it's been shown again and again. I think there are some people claiming minor gains on the 4.7L though... mostly it just makes an annoying whistle and lightens your wallet.

A response from the Helix People:

"My Dodge Dakota gained 22 hp and 18 ft/lb of torque with the Helix installed. The Helix will not work with a bigger throttle body installed.
The larger blade will hit the helix and stop it from opening all the way. The gains from the Helix vary some between vehicles I have seen gains
ranging from 17-22 HP on the 4.7L. All of our products carry a money back 30 day satisfaction guarantee.

Mike Carter"

Wondering if it's worth a try for 30 days.

Mr. Colotti

The 30 day return is with the dealer that the product is purchased through,
I believe Summit extends that to 90 days but I'm not sure about that. All
of our dealers have to agree to the 30 day policy to sell our products.

Our dyno doesn't print graphs and I have tried to take pictures of the
screen after runs and they were un readable. I do have dyno runs but I
can't get a copy to you at this time, the dyno is going to be updated next
year I hear, but the old runs will be lost when that happens.

As for spacers not working well that is correct, but the Helix swirl added
to spacer works. We have tried different designs of swirls and the current
one is the best so far. I have removed other spacers from customers
vehicles and replaced them with our Helix and in every case so far the
customer was happier with our product. I think you will like the Helis if
you try it and if you don't you will be refunded your purchase price.

DucBoy,

I concur with Todd W. These spacers or swirl devices, I believe, swirl the incoming air. Maybe it increases the turbulance or velocity. In any case, with 3.9, 5.2 and 5.9L, the beer barrel intake negates this effect. Like Todd said 4.7L have seen some minor gains. I believe the 4.7L V8 has a different intake manifold. You can check out www.speedtweaks.net under Tips and Tricks for spiral spacers. If you have a 3.9L V6, go for a stock V8 TB replacement for about $140.00. That will wake up a V6. So far, I have never found hp claims to reach their full advertised potential. I always liked tried and true.

Or, you can be like me and take a dremel tool to the stock TB. It's sort of a half-way to a V8 TB, maybe a little less. Cheaper though, if you already own the dremel. There are sites out there that'll help you do it.

I used the tutorial on: http://www.fast4x4.net/
