Message: The guy that did my heads and cam work has fabbed up some traction bars that I bolted up to my truck today...let me tell U I was stunned. He was using Lakewoods on his R/T which weren't long enough to begin w/ and the Lakewoods are Grade16 steel. He runs a 150 shot of nitrous w/ heads and cam on his truck and bent one of the Lakewoods at the track last weekend.
He guarantees these to be 10 times better than Lakewoods and 5 times better than Caltracs.
They are made from Grade 11 steel, 3" longer for the Dakotas, and the snubber is twice as big as Lakewoods. He can paint em practically any color, I had mine painted black to conceal em better.
He is asking $139 for the set, half less than Caltracs. He's based in Dallas and says he can fab up about 5 sets a day. Anyone interested let me know.

Message: I just had a metal-fab buddy weld me up a set of those same things. Just really thick Lakewood look-alikes with mounting hardware that's twice the size of the Lakewood U-bolts. I used the stock snubbers and there is NO gap between the snubber and the spring eye mount. When I dump the clutch, they hit HARD. The reason the Lakewood originals dont' do so well is that they are too short. That's why everybody poo-poo's on them. These are 10 times better.
I just wish I had thought to sell them first. They are worth $100 minimum, but $139 don't sound too bad either, specially if you can get any color you want.......

Hey Alex...you can still sell them if you want, whoz to say you can't? There always has to be competition no matter what people sell. ;)

Message: Well, I may still. The guy who helped me out pretty much just eye-balled a lot of the welding and drilling & stuff. They fit my truck, but I'd hate to try and mass-produce without some really accurate jigs or something. I'd pretty much run & hide as soon as somebody called me up saying they didn't fit and he was going to kick my ass. hahahaha
If I was really driven in my pursuit, I could prolly start a market here. All I did is crib some measurements from the real Lakweoods and make that front part about 2"-3" longer. And then we used some really beefy steel. There ain't no flex in these suckers!!

Message: Well the truck he has he's spent about 10K on research and development, he's fabbed up a sweet ram air design, relocated oil and tranny filter setup. I mean he's done precise measurments on these and knows the way they'll fit exactly and has tested them at the track under a 150 shot and they've held up, these have no gap between the I-beam either or knows a way to adjust them for a gap if you don't like a stiff ride all the time. He's spent alot of time researching it and he's confident that they are right and back them up all the way.

Message: That's prolly why I wouldnt' make very good competition for your guy. hahahahah......
On the other hand, i could prolly sell mine for a lot cheaper (with absolutely NO guarantee of ANYTHING). Hahahaha
I've got a method for increasing that gap at the snubber, too. It's called a hacksaw!! hahahaha
Just cut the snubber down. I am thinking I may have to do that because my truck is just brutal over rough pavement. Maybe I can just change out to full length snubbers when I get to the track.

Message: I just saw them on Mike's truck. They look very clean and well built. If it weren't for the crappy weather, I would have been able to feel them lock up better, but from what I could feel, there was a definite change in grip. Me thinks I want a set. hehe
