Hey guys, I love my 2001 4.7 dakota....but like everyone else i wanted a little more power and gas efficiency. So I had a flowmaster 40 series 2 chamber exhaust installed....no other piping just the muffler. All excited I went to pick it up.....it had the sound I wanted but, its lowend torque was horrible...and I didnt really notice much power topend either...Come to find out I got like 3 small exhaust leaks....anyone know why i lost so much power? Anyone have a exhaust system they got good power from ?

I've heard time and again that the 4.7 reacts very poorly to exhaust mods. Every time, its the same thing, major loss of low end torque. For that reason, my 4.7 is still basicly stock, and as of right now, I have no plans of changing anything in the exhaust system since I tow about 3 days a week. I do have a serious jones for a set of HO cams, but thats going to have to wait till I have some extra cash. As for exhaust, I've been told that the gibson single out sport truck exhaust has a less detrimental effect on the 4.7's performance than other systems.

I got good results from the Gibs Dual Sport catback, but at the same time I freed up the intake side with an AirForce One intake. You gotta enhance both sides (intake and exhaust) or you can easily lose power instead.

It seems that when you change the exhaust you need to enlarge the throttle body. Then your back where you started..! Save your money for computer upgrades.

replace the cat.

why free up the resistance after the real restriction in the exhaust and expect horspower?
