was wondering what you all feell the proper shift points would be in a 4.7qc 5spd im not talking about fuel economy i mean performance shifting (with out any damage) I normaly rev her to 4000 rpm max
when im trying someone off the line . im too scared of damaging anything beyond that. so i guess what im asking is what is the maximum rpm these little engines can take. and what are aoutomatic shift points floored???

It really depends on the way you mod it.

Stock, about 5500 "ish"

I have removed my cat, along with a 2 chamber 40 series single in dual out, flomaster muffler, and I have also installed a home brew intake.
Since my exhaust mod, it seemed like it was shifting to soon, not that it was shifting at a different rpm, it just had more power to give. So I put it into first (auto) and held it there and found the rev limiter at 6,000 rpms, but it pulled all the way up to 6,000.

Without a free flowing exhaust I would shift about 52-5700 rpms. But you can tell when the pulling power starts to die off.

Hope this helps

btw... between 4-5200 is when you'll really feel the power, your shifting too soon. Remember, this is an OHC motor, they tend to rev higher. Not to mention you have a rev limiter, I think at 6,000 so you really won't hurt anything, unless you cruise down the road at 6,000
