Subject: Performance ?? IP: Logged
Message: Does anybody know what cam I should get for a 2001 Dakota 2.5L. I need one that will produce horsepower all over the powerband. Since its a 4 cylinder I cant afford to loose any power. Any suggestions. Also are roller rocker arms worth it. And wheres the best place to get these parts from. I found one place but the only sell for the 2.5L jeep.

Message: Roller Rockers are definitely worth it. You'll get about 10HP plus better gas milage, and they last longer. As far as the cam, i don't know whats available for the 2.5L but your not going to find one that produces power over the entire RPM range. Actually thats what your stock cam does, it produces fairly even power throughout the rpm range. When you go with a performance cam you either get a cam thats good for low end torque and mid-range power, or you get something for top end horsepower. It all depends on what your doing with the truck, are you looking into better street performnace or is this a 4x4 you want to offroad with?
Your kind of fighting an uphill battle with the 4 cyl. In a Honda you can make a 4 cyl go fast if you put enough money into it, but with a heavy truck your not going to win any street races.
