Message: In my experience K&Ns usually yield about 5-10HP, but can give more or less. It is all related to everything else in/on the truck. You'll get more out of a K&N if you have a free-flow exhaust, than if it were bone stock with the exception of the filter. You also may pick up 1-3MPG if you resist the temptation to keep your foot off the long pedal. Now if I could just figure out how to do that....

Message: All I know is that the K&Ns flow more air than
the stock paper and foam filters. They have a display at a local truck performance shop that compares a K&N to a paper filter. A fan blows air through the filters and causes a ping pong ball to rise in a tube. The K&N pushes the ball all the way to the top. Switch filters and the ball never leaves the bottom with the paper filter.

Message: 4Wheel and Off-Road tested several intakes (in their March issue I believe)on a 92 Chevy with a 350.
On the dyno, the K&N 14x3 open element flow 8 more rwhp, the air raid cold air was a shy less but around 8 also.
I fit a 14x3 on my 95 but I think the 97 and up can't without an offset base. The 14x3 is part number E-1650 and I have a Mr. Gasket chrome lid. Total cost involved is around $60. You will need to fabricate a longer S-bolt, about $3.00 for that but very easy to do.

Message: 5-10 h.p?? yea right!
try 1-2 if your lucky, the only advantage to a drop in K&N is being able to wash anb reuse it for the life of your truck. You want power go with an open element system like the Airaid or K&N FIPK, leave the K&N at the store :)

Message: It depends which K&N filter you are talking about.
You won't notice a big gain with a replacement drop in, but you will with a Gen II set up and even more if you use a Hughes 1100 filter on it. Its been proven, the K&N Gen II system is the best out there.

Message: Just add a K&N drop in filter today to my Dak,my butt dyno says it is worth the money!I did notice a difference in the way my truck run,it loves the additional air,at least the TB is not sucking a lot of hot air!I will pay forty six dollars any day,for "one to five HP" OK its not the bottle or a blower, but it is cheap HP! With my R/T exhaust system and the K&N,my 4,060 LBS truck rocks!

Message: I am running a 14x3" open K&N and am very pleased with it. I have not measured underhood temperatures but has not affected my mileage at all.
Now the disclaimer, As the weather gets hotter, I will keep an eye on performance but this weekend with 90 degree temps on the coast, it ran great.

Message: with a K&N airfilter you may only gain about 5-10 horsepower. however, if you are that interested in gaining horsepower from an airfilter, take a look at the site www.djmotorsports.com they offer an airfilter than can give you up to 23 HP

Message: And I quote "Horsepower can range from 7-10 up to 23hp depending on the engine size and what paticular range in the RPM band. For example, a Dodge Dakota 360ci. in second gear can produce 23 additional horsepower over a factory air box, at the top end in 3rd gear the horsepower gain is reduced to 11hp. Each engine requires a different amount of air through different RPM bands, therefore producing vairable amounts of horsepower"
Not everyone will see 23hp
The do look damn nice though

Message: That DJ Motorsports system does look nice, also replaces the stock airhat.
3 minor concerns though:
1)Possible mods needed for cruise control
2)No heat shield
3)Bit pricy at $309 (but ya gotta spends the bucks
to get the goods)
Till the K&N FIPK GEN II comes out, gonna 'waste' $140 on the Airaid system (heatshield but keeps the stock airhat), I see the Intense Performance low end systems don't have a heatshield nor replace the airhat, so the Airaid seems best bang for the buck till I get to spend around $259 or so in the summer for the K&N system
