Ok, so i just got my new Gibson catback installed. And i love the sound. Now its time to work my way up. Anyone got any suggestions for headers? KRC sells Borla ones, but i didnt know if Gibson or anyone else had any out. I want to get the "best" that i can. Of course there are some price issues i have to watch out for. But i just got my tax returns back, so i got some money to blow. :)

Borla makes 4.7l headers but I heard that they are really not worth the money. Minimal sound improvement and minimal power gain. JBA is coming out with headers for the 4.7l in the summer. You might want to wait till then to see how the JBA headers perform.

Thanks. From what i've heard the JBAs are the way to go. I just dont like all this waiting for parts to come out. Damn me for buying brand new. hehehe. I do love this 4.7 tho, wouldnt trade it for anything (except maybe a 5.7 based off of it). Oh yeah, does anyone know when flometrics is going to come out with their 4.7 TB? Thanks again. :)

I heard Bernd saying that the factory exhaust manifolds work just as good as the headers, no improvement on anything. Send him an email.

I think I remember reading an article about headers on the 4.7. If I remember right they talked about how the 4.7 was designed to generate h.p. based on back pressure from the exhaust. You may want to do a little research to make sure you are not defeating your purpose. I have a '00 Sport 4.7, 5 spd. I am running true dual Flowmasters with dual high-flow cat. converters(not an easy task by the way, a lot of rerouting). Anyway, I was able to tell the difference right away in the way it breathes. I wanted to add headers, but then I read that article. I'm happy with the stock manifolds and don't think headers would bring out much more. If I am wrong I'm sorry. Just trying to save you some wasted money.

I had a friend who installed the Borla headers in his 4.7, hes pissed. Maybe a 3-5 hp increase and no noticable sound difference, wait till the JBA's come out and see how much they help. Does anyone have a review of Flometric's new TBs, th 68mm and 70mm for the 2001?

From what I've heard , the 4.7 exhaust manifolds are exceptionally efficient, and there's little reason to use headers unless you're doing valve mods, blower, NOS, etc.

Intake, cat-back, and MAYBE throttle-body are gonna wake up the 4.7 and your "butt-dyno".

When you say TRUE DUAL - when I had an estimate done for Flowmasters on mine - it would run 1 muffler with 2 exits. How did you go about running dual? Isn't there the Y pipe, Cat, Muffler, and then Dual Exit pipes? Correct if I'm wrong - I wanted true dual...

I heard these engines make alot of power off the back pressure. Wouldnt true dual exaust take away alot of back pressure unlees you use smaller tubing. JUst wondering

I have 2001 dakota 4.7 with Borla, I wanted JBA just because I have used them before but couldn't wait, anyhow the stock manifolds are good but still do not allow as much exit exhaust as headers. For sound at normal driving you will not notice at high rpms more exhaust out of course means more sound. I would only do headers last, because of the money and return you get with it. Air intake / TB / Flowmaster then custom flash computer from KRC Performance approx $ 1000.00 for all parts but you will feel the difference. WildBill

Thanks for the info Bill. I already have a gibson catback, and a z-tube. Now that i see the numbers, i wish i would have gone with the flowmaster, but i just love the sound of the gibsons. Oh well, a lesson learned. I am waiting for the TB to come out from flometrics, when i talked to Marty at KRC he said first part of May. But that was a while ago. Are there any other engine/drive train mods that would be worth it while i wait? I am planning to switch my gears from 3.55 to 3.92, but that wont be for a while. Any other suggestions would be great. Thanks :)

Techknow, the way i ran true duals is like I said, two catalytic converters(high flow aftermarket). Once this is done there is a lot of work getting around the gas tank. I have no y-pipe (hence true duals), just left manifold, exhaust tube, cat, exhaust tube, flowmaster (2 stage), and, lastly, about twelve inches of final tube(i got tired of routing so i turned them down at the rear end). The same goes down the right side of the truck.

Python97, like I said earlier, once i added the true duals I was afraid of losing too much back pressure so I did not install headers. The stock manifold along with the duals add up to a perfect combination for me.

Cdover...What did you do to the computer to get your true duals to work? Is it just taking readings off of one bank? Or did you somehow reprogram the PCM to tell it to take readings off of the 2 seperate banks??
