Subject: MOPAR PCM installation question IP: Logged
Message: Question, I know the VIN needs to be input by the dealer. I have a used PCM on the way (yes it is the correct part number for my truck) If I do not get any lights, check engine, ABS, am I good to go or does the VIN still need to be done? About a month ago I had another MOPAR PCM from another truck installed for an hour or so. Same part number. I was having a problem and we were trying the PCM to see if it was the problem. Anyway the ABS lights did not come on when the PCM was installed. Just seeing if I can avoid the dealer.

Message: As far as I know, if you don't have any lights on, you should be fine. Try hitting the brakes hard and see if the ABS works. If so, I wouldn't flash it.

Message: It's a 99 Durango 5.9. Unfortunately I have discovered some more information over at Dodgetrucks.org. and from the MOPAR hotline. The VIN can only be flashed once. On the positive side a lot of people are picking up used PCMs and most are not having any problems with ABS or lights. A few have. It seems like it is hit or miss. What I yet do not understand is the PCM is the brains. What would it compare the VIN to? Once one is programmed, it should think all is ready to go. I'll find out tomarrow

Message: PCM is in. No check engine or ABS lights. All is good running with the VIN from the other truck. (The MOPAR tech line said it would trip the lights)
