This question is definately directed at anyone
who KNOWS and has been inside the 9.25 Dodge differential with limited slip.

On my 2001 Dak 4x4, the clutch packs are (somewhat) held in position by "retainer clips".
While changing the gear oil in my rearend, I noticed that one of these retainer clips was slightly broken (and could possible fall out?)

From what I could see, these retainer clips provide a very small function, they are essentially there to fill the small (1/16 - 1/32 inch ?)space between the clutch pack "tabs" and the grooves in the differential case which the clutch packs slide into. Would it be a VERY bad thing if one of the clips fell out ?

Is it possible to replace a retainer clip without removing and tearing down the differential ???

I'd really hate to have to take it in to the dealer for a warranty on this ...
(I have developed a certain lack of trust in the
quality of workmanship provided by most mechanics
at dealerships)

Thank You All !

Take it to the dealer they will replace the whole LSD unit. I know of no way to put that clip back in. They can slide out farther and do more damage. Get it repaired.

CW is right. A buddy and I just changed his fluid in his Ram and seen the same deal you have. You can take a screwdriver and push the pin in the clutch packs from side to side. It looks like to me that the whole assembly would come apart real easy. The dealer quoted $1,100 to fix, and they will replace the whole LSD unit. Hope your still in warranty!

If they have to replace the LSD unit, do they
have to do all the differential "setup" again ?

Would I save any money if I got them to swap
in a 3.92 gearset at the same time ?

I believe the ring and pinion has to be pulled
out to do the limited slip, I just purchased the
sure grip, and am waiting on the installation,
cause I want to switch to 3.92's...anyone know
where I can get them for a good price?

you better take it back, the limited slip unit is
like a $400.00 piece ; ) have it fixed while its
under warrany.
