Does anyone have any advice to give me on my engine rebuild(92 318 magnum). i have a place to get it done(they are great people!) and i know they would do a great job, but i need to know what parts I should consider when rebuilding it. For example, intake manifold, rockers, pistons(forged), cam, crank, throtle body, thermostat, port and polishing heads(bigger valves???) If anyone has rebuilt their engine or knows a sh*t load of info....PLEASE LET ME KNOW! I have a 92 dak, cc, 318(mag), with MPSBEC(chip), headers, k&N, pullies, wires, tb spacer,and cat conv., w/flowmaster. I want this truck to perform!(not that it already doesn't) but better.

what are your plans for this engine? people can suggest all kinds of stuff for it but may not be what your looking for... such as forged pistons. If you are not going to be dealing with high cylinder pressures (lots of nitrous) then you really wont need those. If you are gonna run naturally aspirated then a regular piston should do the job fine. If you wanna run some nitrous or a blower or turbo or whatever then hypereutic (spelling?) would be a cheaper alternative to the forged. If its a daily driver you'll probably want to keep the camshaft pretty mild. A new intake manifold would work well but is a 92 318 TBI or SMPI? I would have to recommend a new throttle body (if its smpi) and i have crower 1.7 roller rockers that work really well on my six and have heard same results with the eights.

Well, when we rebuild the engine in my old truck (Chevy 305) we were just doing a straight rebuild, nothing fancy. Ended up getting the crank balanced, high-flow oil pump, domed pistons .010 over with valve relief cutouts, and ported heads with new valves and springs. I'd probally do all that again. At least do the .010, since sometimes you can't get the scratchs out of the cylinder walls simply by honing. If you do that, your going to need .010 pistons. -Definatly- get -all- your bearings and seals replaced.

Then we added a higher performance cam shaft, hardened pushrods, a new intake and larger carb, headers, and a better timing chain. So probally consider getting the cam, pushrods, M1 intake, a larger 'massaged' Throttle body (Fastman), and a true roller timing chain for it as well.

I wish I could say it was cheap, but it wasn't. All told I think I ended up spending $1800-2000 on the rebuild, including machine shop time. Of course, the engine kicked much butt afterwards.

Really, it's all going to depend on what you want to do with the engine and how much your looking to spend. :0)

thanx guys for helping me out! Im surely going to get a supercharger w/some boost and some nitrous(75-135 shot). so i think i will get forged pistons i was playing w/my dyno 2000 on my comp., and the numbers were impressive when i changed(ported) the heads larger(2.02,1.60). so i think i will do that w/a single plane manifold and a mild to wild cam(just enough to pass emissions). to answer your question(intensedak39), the 92 318 is TBI. is the M1 single or dual plane? b/c the numbers were also dramatically changed with a single plane instead of a dual plane. Also im looking to spend about....tops..$2500.

92 318 is multi point injected. If it is a 92 360 its throttle body injected. The magnums mpi motors came out in 92 with the magnum 360 following in 93

Replace all bearings with Clevite.

Check cyl walls for "out of round" if so bore to .30 over as that is the cheapest and most available piston size.Then do a good hone.
I recomend Probe pistons for S/C, Turbo or Nos.

Check crank for groves and go .10 to .20 under and get bearings acrordingly, have crank oil holes chamfered and balanced with the rods and pistons.

Get R/T replacement cam from MP and you shouldnt have any problems with the PCM.

Of course a good oil pump, double roller timin chain and new lifters.

And of course good head job or new MP heads assembled.

This ought to be a pretty decent running engine after you done.

Magnums are considered a thin walled block. Do not bore it more than 30 over. Also mopar doesnt reccomend that the crank be turned anymore than 12 under. Have it turned 10 under and polished. If it is so scarred up that it needs to be turrned more replace it.

r/t replacement cam runs well with any other mods. Its a fairly mild cam and will work fine with the stock or mopar computers. If your really looking for a good performance cam and not just a replace ment type cam contact marty at krc and look at his custom grinds available.
