NO

spend the money on traction bars or put some sand bags back there.

I have traction bars, I just figured it would be better to move weight around than to add it.

Yeah but do you really think the weight of a single battery will make that much of a difference. Just by having 3 extra gallons of gas would be the same as having the weight of the battery in the bed.

you must be a serious bracket racer if you are considering moving the battery. If not, don't waste your time, IMO.

Any weight you have to have that can be moved from front to back will help you in the drags.

Even if your batt is only 30 or so pounds you are still taking 30 off the front end (so it can raise faster) and placing it in the rear (to help the tires bite better).

Keep in mind this stuff is all really for hard core racers that dont haul a whole lot but all of those little mods do add up to better track times but with sacrifice.

not a serious bracket racer at all. lol was just kinda curious how it would work and I could have the space under the hood.

To remove weight I should probable start with removing the 2 12's and heavy box from my back seet.

Bear in mind that if you relocate the battery to the bed, any track safety inspection will then require you to have a manual kill switch mounted on the exterior of the car. As in drill a hole in the bumper or roll pan, etc. Ever seen the red circular ON/OFF switch on a true race car? That's what the NHRA is gonna require for you to have the battery in the bed. It'll be good for your launch, and moving wieght to the rear is a great approach, but the wiring is a pain in the p-tootie.

first,if you have a group 7 batt in your dak that sucker wheighs about 60lbs. So if you put 60lbs in your bed. I personally think it will help. I have a 94sc and yes my batt is in my bed. When you can shift wheight to the back of a vehicle that has more then 60% of its wheight in the front, yes it will help..

Alex,

That's not true. It depends on the class and bracket you're running in.

I did it in my 98 RC for a cheap/fun project. The batt is in a lockable toolbox in the bed. I had it painted when they did my front bumper. It's something a little different. Here's a pic.

http://www.execulink.com/~enolagay/DESPR8.jpg

The weight bias in my truck is like 59.5% over the front wheels. Forgot to weigh before I did the mod. It was pretty easy and it made a slight difference in my times at the strip. It may not make a huge impact but it definately won't make you slower and it won't hurt your handling.

Middy.
