Message: Leslie
Don't mess around with that 360. Go buy a brand new R/T. It would be cheaper than you building one!!!
You would look good (I mean better) in one!!!
Do it now.....

Message: Dont do it Lesley.
If you really need a 5.9 do like Dakaty said and buy one from a Mopar Performance dealer with the warranty.
I have purchased a few so called "good" used engines in my time and they are almost never "good".
At the very least goto a junkyard and get one, they'll probably charge you 1000 to 1500 and have some guarantee at least.
Dont forget:headers, V8 PCM, wiring, injectors (2 more) and TQ converter.
All those things make a seamingly cheap 5.9 conversion get real expensive.
Hope I didnt kill your dreams, I am buildin a premag 360 for my Dak right now and recomend V8's to all.I am done with the no TQ 6.

Message: Actually FazDak that e-bay setup has most all the stuff you need, it is TB to oil pan. I'm sure it has exhaust manifolds as well. It really only needs the transmission differences, but a torque converter from a non-360 can be externally balanced to work with the 360. It is still a lot of work considering how many good deals I see on used R/T's. If you are willing to deal with a 90,000 mile motor, I think there are quite a few 98 or 99 R/T's out there for $11,000-$14,000. Hell a brand spanking new basic RC R/T can be had for just over $19,000 after all rebates and some haggling. The key is to sell your Dakota privately first so the dealers don't get you coming and going. I privately got $10,000 for my 6 cylinder 95 Grand Cherokee Larado with 70,000 miles, and then bought a 1 year old R/T with 10,000 miles for $17,000. Not a bad upgrade for $7000 considering how much newer the R/T was. I do miss the 4x4 in the winter though!

Message: Yeah but..... I love my dak! I'd rather upgrade it
than trade up. I've got it just the way I want it,
but a project engine would be fun, and a real
learning experience. And - just think how good
it would be plopped in my dak.
