I was looking to get the 9" K&N and I was looking at it and couldn't tell how to connect the opening of the cone to any kind of piping. I know you are supposed to get a fernco connector, but how does it connect to the filter?

Any help by saturday morning would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Will...did you relocate your AIT sensor? If so, where? I put mine in the air tube, where most people here suggested it go. Just wondering if you did or not.

My question is that all of the filters I have seen and opened to look at don't have any fitting type thing to connect to the pipe... it just has an open hole... see that part that is black connecting the pipe to the filter... what is that?

I saw a air intake made for a honda civic and took the pipe to the dak and it'll fit... i might just buy that kit... it was only 70 bucks.

Another thing... I found something...
deflect-o semi rigid flexible aluminum duct that might work...
it's operating temp is -100*F to 450*F
It's 3" in diameter but has small ridges... I got some to try it... it's only 5 bucks...

After hearing that PVC emits deadly gasses when heated, i looked for some study on this on the net... and sure enough, it does emit gasses when heated... never found a temperature, but i will stick to other forms than PVC now.

that would explain the rancid smell I had encountered with mine when the weather started turning warmer and the engine compartment started to retain more heat.

Needless to say I took my pvc setup off and went back to the stock air box...now I miss the extra pep. I might try the ABS pipe now. I didn't know there was a difference in pipe.

I believe ABS and PVC are the same aren't they?

I tell you... I got a honda intake at advance auto parts and a fernco adapter and it works perfectly... 75 bucks total! Now i have to build a heat shield.

Just a comment, down here in florida it's been in the high 90's for the past couple of weeks now and my home made intake is fine, no warping no odors nothing. Only thing I did was put a small pc of foam under the K&N because it was rubbing on a bolt. If you decide to make your own intake just remember that if the pvc is say 3" thats the inside diameter, the outside ( if it's schedule 40 pvc) will be 3 1/2". Also on the PVC 90's their are 2 different types, one has where the pipe slips in is larger than the actual elbow and the other kind is the same size thru out the elbow, I got mine from an irrigation supply store, lasco is who makes the pvc 90 I got we use them at work also they hold up good

Just get a K&N with a 3" opening and connect it to the airhat deal that goes to the throttle body. It will look good because there is no plumbing and its cheap! It may be hotter than a cold air kit but not any hotter than the stock airbox with that joke of a fender scoop. I have a 4" opening on mine or whatever size goes around a 3.5" flange, and I am cutting the 2" of the soft rubber flange off of a rubber 90 and putting that over the airhat inlet and under the K&N's flange. Should work and seal fine.
