What is the stock rocker arm ratio on the 5.2 engine? I thought it was 1.5:1 but lately I've seen some info leading me to believe it is 1.6:1.

I just ordered the 1.7:1 rocker arms from Crower. How difficult is it to install these? Going on a 97 5.2L.

If you order the 1.7:1's, get the kit...don't just install the rollers. Also, you'll need taller valve covers on the V8's to fit the 1.7's under there (Mopar Performance Valve Covers work well). On the V6's, you remove the baffle uder the valve cover.

So The 1.7's won't fit under the stock vale covers even though they say they will on the crower website? Figures!! I didn't get the kit because I'm running the stock computer so I can't get over 5300 rpm's (I think that is the limiter) anyway. And mopar doesn't make a performance computer for my truck. 97 5.2L automatic federal.

Last time I looked the website said they fit if you trim the valve cover baffle. I thought the rev limit was 5200 until I put headers on. I've seen 5700 but was afraid to go any higher. Power was

falling off by then anyway. 98 5.2 5sp

The ratio is higher and the factory pushrods may slip at higher rpm's (5300-5500+). If you're not going to be running past 5200rpm, the standard kit (#73656K) will work. If you plan on running past this, the complete kit (P/N# 73656PK) is safer.

Remember though, the factory engines (5.2/5.9L) were not designed to run past 5500rpm max. The HP and TQ curves also confirm this and 5100-5200 is the max shift point required to keep you in the powerband. Running past 5200rpm is asking for problems.

Hardened pushrods are good insurance, as are stiffer valve springs. Both are kinda pointless though, until you really start modding the motor. Anything shy of cam/headwork, your peak hp/tq will be well below ~5200-5300 rpm (near boderline grenading of stock valvetrain). So until you go into the motor, the stock valvetrain components will suffice, just be VERY carefull when turning 5k rpm or more.. (which is pointless b/c you make so little power...) :)

The 1.7s (all roller rockers really..) will fit with the stock valve covers, but you need to beat the oil baffles out. 1.7s *may* need taller covers regardless...
