hi guys.
im going to order the crower 1.7 rockers kit are they really worth it is there any noticeable difference in throttle response,my truck is running so good rite now and id hate to mess up a good thing so please help should i get them are they worth the money and time is there any one who dislikes them..

I just got my Crower 1.7s installed this weekend. I haven't got them broke in yet. Instructions say to run 50 miles before exceeeding 4500 RPM. I had my computer flashed (B&G) with my WOT shift points changed to 5400 RPM, so I'm going to play it safe before winding it up.

I'll post in a few days to report the performance difference.

My install sucked because I was helping a guy do it that didn't have a clue what he was doing. He is a Dodge mechanic and we did the install at the Dealership on Saturday. (We did have access to lots of cool tools!!) I had made a deal with him to trade the install labor for my Jet Chip. He acted like he knew all about the rocker install and said we could do it in 2 hours.

Well come to find out he thought the roller rockers would install like the OEM rockers.. just bolt them on with no adjustment. Anyway, the first go around he tried to adjust the rockers by the simple directions that Crower provides. However, after he adjusted each one per the instructions, they would become loose after he turned over the engine several times. So he would re adjust them tighter.

I'm not sure he had the engine positioned so that the pushrods were sitting on the flat part of the cam when he was doing the adjustments. Anyway, after he screwed around and adjusted them all the first time, I put the engine completely back together. When we started it, it sounded like $hit!!! It clattered terribly. The guy told me that is the way roller rockers should sound. I told him he was full of crap. He got some other Dodge mechanics to come listen and they said the rockers were way out of adjustment.

So... I removed all the stuff off the engine again. He farted around and re adusted them by "feel". Another mechanic (who really didn't know about rollers either) came over and checked it and they were OK.

So I put it back together again and it still has some valve clatter. Not near as bad as the first time, but it doesn't sound right

All of this took almost eight hours!!

Do it yourself and follow the directions!!

I just did em on my V6 about 2 weeks ago and luv em Truck has good TQ in the 2000+ rpm range.

Some things I did that helped me.

1. Remove the top half of the fan shroud: so you can use a big socket to turn the crank over, and see the timing marks.

2. remove the distributor cap to see TDC for CYL 1 - I also used a protractor to mark my cam plate every 60* (V6) this made it easy to find TDC for each CYL by turning the crank by hand.

3. Removed the spark plugs this made it easier to turn the engine over to pump up the lifters.

And 4th this might sound like over kill but I haven't had to remove my covers for adjustments yet ! and no noise at all !!!!!!

4. after setting all the RR's & SURELOCKS I turned the engine over with the starter (remember the spark plugs are out!) to pump up the lifters, then I went through and reset all the RR's a 2nd time. I then installed new plugs (Autolites) and reconnected all the wires & electronics. then with the valve covers off (trust me on this one you won't get much oil splatter if you don't touch the gas) let truck idle for about 2 min. (slight tappet noise) Re-adjusted RR's 3rd time, started Truck let idle for about 2 min. (sounded nice) checked SURELOCKS and buttoned everything up and drove away for the break-in.

I like the idea of running the truck before reinstalling the valve covers.

Someone told me there are clips that go over the oil holes in the rockers that prevent the oil from squirting up and out of the head area. It seems like you could use some real heavy aluminum foil and makeshift a cover for the oil holes. Is this the only area that would throw oil?

Are your roller rockers as quiet as the OEM rockers? It seems like they should be at least as quiet as OEM.

I did try the alum foil but when I started the truck there was a burst out of one pushrod and it blew the foil off and it started dancing around on top of the rockers, needless to say I didn't like the looks of a 1 cent piece of foil getting into my $370. RR's ;)

The burst only amounted to about a teaspoon it did the same thing when I started it the second time on the other bank of CYL's only out one pushrod again.

The RR's are as quite as stock, I haven't even had any tapping after letting the truck set for a few days.

I chose the 1.7 RR's over Headers as I read about to many loosing their low end TQ with them, I feel it was a good choice now, I have about 400 miles on them and the truck has a lot more TQ up the power band now and it dosen't look like it's going to hurt my mpg if I can keep my foot out of it hehehe ;) I have a 112 miles at 3/4 on the gauge and that's right where it ran before.

Dan, thanks for the detailed info on your rocker install. I'm thinking about doing the same thing, and about adding JBA headers afterwards. I've read that headers alone will hurt the bottom end, but that an intake, TB and the rockers will bring it back, and then some. I'm much more interested in maximizing the low end punch than I am in gaining power at 5000rpm. I wouldn't be surprised if my truck never sees 5000rpm. Are headers something that you're still considering?

Right now I don't think headers are in the picture for me, I'm very happy with the way the truck is running now and will probably leave it alone for awhile ;) yea right.......

I would not be happy with the chrome ones at around $200+ so before I would spend $400+ on Ceremic coated I would get a PowerDyne SC
