Subject: Filter and cold air? IP: Logged
Message: My friend has a 5.9 dodge ram with a triangle filter that was made for a 5 1/2" 4bbl Carb. My parents just got me a 4.7 dakota 4X4 for my grad and i was wondering if i could get one of those filters and a ram air hood with a scoop. Would i get cold air out of that? better yet.. would that even work?

Message: Just went out today and got a 10" open element air filter (K&N of course) for my 3.9 litre (check out the pics). The filter is 10"x2" which seems to just barely fit under the hood when closed, but the Dak is getting a Reflexxion cowl hood installed a week from tomorrow. Putting this type of air filter on will greatly decrease the distance your air will have to travel to your TB. Also with the cowl hood, or even with a RamAir hood, depending on your air intake set-up, this will help your air flow as well. I personnaly went with the open element set-up simply because my air will be coming in directly in front of the windshield. Hope this helps :-)

ask mommy for a cold air ram air intake
DansDakAtak
So now you have NO cold air and NO ram effect. Nice going. Hope you don't live in hot climate.

Message: I wasnt going for the "Ram" effect in the first place. Since there will be a cowl hood in place of the stock hood, i simply put the open element filter on because the air will be coming into the engine bay directly behind the filter. It was going to do me no good to have a cowl induction hood, with the air coming in all the way down by the front fender.

Untill you slow down or come to a stop then all that hot air from the radiator hits the little round filter...then your IAT sensor changes for the hot air...then you take off and the engine is all tuned for hot air...cowl or not.

Message: Handi2, if you see this post, I noticed that you have a '68 Mustang fastback pic on your profile...I started out in Mustangs, and I've had a few...'66 coupe, '65 Fastback, '70 Mach 1, and a '91 GT. None in the garage right now, but I'd like to grab another GT or Cobra. Did you build the '68 yourself? Looks nice!

Message: As far as the Mustang I had a complete frame off restoration done in 99. Numerous first place and Gold Concourse wins. I'm getting tired of showing it now. Especially in the summer. The car is 100% correct. I did allot of the resto on the underbody parts and the engine, interior.
I had someone post the pic for me. I don't know how to change it.
Click on my profile for more pics.
Thanks

Message: true dual = not unless you do a _bunch_ of other stuff to fix up the top end and need the extra exhaust flow. to maintain the proper back pressure go with a 3" catback or dual outlet from the muffler no larger than 2 1/2" (mine is 2 1/4"). i've read that those 2 options will provide enough flow for up to 300hp (?).
you have a few options for chips, but depends on the year model - Jet Chips dont get very good press around here, so even if half of those people are telling the truth, thats enough for me to stay away from them. ASE makes a piggy-back chip that they solder into your PCM, feedback is 50/50 on them too.
Leach is said to do good reflashing work, but only on 2000 and older.
personally, imma wait until i get all my other initial mods done before any chip or reflashing...not enough good choices for an '01 4.7 yet.
