Subject: Nitrous on 3.9L IP: Logged
Message: Just wondering all of your opinions on the
3.9L being able to handle a 75hp or 100hp
shot of nitrous with no internal upgrades i.e.
cam, crank, pistons etc. The kit I will be using
is the general ZEX kit.
Thanks,
Josh

Before I went to the S/C on my '97 V6...I was running the NX 100HP Shot at the track and the 75HPO shot on the street. No problems at all but you will need a good ignition system and nitrous retard. The MSD Digital-6+ with the Blaster-SS coil is what I ran (and still do).
It allows for a single stage retard (activated by the nitrous solenoid) and a nitrous rev-limiter and standard rev-limiter as well (two-stage rev-limiter). You'll also need to run one step colder on the plugs and .005" smaller on the gap to compensate for the higher cylinder pressure from the nitrous.
Otherwise...it was a LOT of fun.
Performance wise:
225WHP and 381TQ...that's at the REAR wheels. (What a rush from a V6!)
