Subject: 1991 5.2- what do I spend 1,000 or 2,000 IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1991 Dakota 2WD with the 5.2- I know it's different from the 1992 Magnum 5.2- so what do I do? Cam? I can never find headers? An intake that works with the Holly "Pro-Jection" All I have is flowmaster dual exhaust and a K&N- I'd like a lot more. I've got the body and interior very custom, from 18" wheels and lowering kit, to body kit and custom roll pan with dual exhaust coming out of it. Please help

Message: Try www.ramairbox.com They will work with you to get you something that is useable. So far mine has worked well. If nothing else, this is something to look at.

Message: You can use most all parts for the premag LA engine inventory.
If you wanna go bolt on and wanna stay in emmission guidlines I suggest 1.6 roller rockers, Edlebrock performer RPM intake (with an adaptor to your 2bbl TB) MSD and of course all the good tune up parts to go with it.
Now if you wanna get deeper into it and wanna get wild you got two routes.
First one is what I'm going to be doing soon I think.
Rip out your computer, get a good intake and 4 bbl carb then the Mopar ignition conversion kit.
Then the whole world of cams and good stuff is wide open to you because you dont have a comp to foul up running big cams and all.
Second would be to put on mag heads, intake, TB, corisponding PCM and wiring.
Do ALOT of reserch on that one as I havent but I have read bits and pieces that say it can me done.
Good luck and write me directly if I can help with any info on pre mag stuff as I have built quite a few of them in my time.

Message: If you're 318 is mechanically sound go with a set of #302 318 heads(85-91)- reworked with 1.88/1.60 valves and some mild porting and milled enough to clean up the decks , mild hyd roller , Comp Cams makes some nice roller cams that will work with the LA engine , use an Edelbrock Performer intake with either an adaptor plate for you're throttle body or better yet a 600 Edelbrock carb if you don't have sniff testing in you're area. Roller rockers are not necessary with this combo and would probably be a waste of $350 . Headers would be a big help , look at what Hooker has to offer , I helped one of my friends swap a 360 into an '88 and used a set of Hooker engine swap headers. Whatever you do don't put 360 heads on it because you will lose you're compression , 360 heads are 70-71cc open chamber and 318 heads are 62-63cc closed chamber. If you go with the carb set up a nice cam would be the Comp Cams Extreme energy 262 hyd flat tappet cam , it might screw with the computer if you try to run it with the EFI though.
