Subject: 1999 dakota r/t drive shaft material? IP: Logged
Message: Are all 99 r/t's using a black composite material, possibly carbon fiber for the drive shaft? I looked at mine, and it seems to be carbon fiber or some composite. The shaft is definitly not aluminum! The only aluminum is at the ends of the shaft. You may laugh, but I can send digital pics tomarrow so someone can tell me what I have under there! I did buy it used, but was under the impression it was all stock. Believe it or not I have had this truck for over a year before I ever really took notice to this!

Message: Mine has a metal driveshaft not aluminum or any kind of composite. Sounds like you got a deal, composite or carbon fiber shafts are really expensive and I've never heard of one on a Dakota. I would love to see pictures and find out were it came from.

Message: It is aluminum it is just a plastic covering. To help prevent small dings.

Message: The CC's have aluminum driveshafts with a carbon fiber wrap around them to help stop vibrations. The RC's have steel driveshafts with no wrap of any sort. They used aluminum on the CC's to help save some weight with the extra length.

Message: This is not a wrap, it is a large inner diameter carbon fiber/composite shaft. I will do more investigating, but other CC's do not have this? who knows?
