Message: I read a test on oil filters that was down on Fram filters. Being a life long Fram user, I had to see for myself. This was not a flow of filtering test but a construction quality test. To see for myself, I cut a Fram and a Motorcraft apart. That was enough for me. The Motorcraft quality was so much better. It had no paper end caps, a better sealing bypass, and bigger holes on the inlet flow ports. I'll never use another Fram oil filter.
Now, if I can find some info on flow and filtering capabilities to choose a new favorite. I hate to use a Motorcraft filter in my Dakota.

Message: Have you seen a cutaway of Wix, Hastings or Napa Gold? They are top notch. I think Fram makes some good filters in there upper line too.

Message: I didn't want to start an argument; I use this filter because it is full sized, and if you look in owners manual on the full sized V-8, it's the one for HD or severe service. I also drive and service V-10's, and think the NAPA golds are very good filters.

Message: I like bosch filters THey have the really good quality. I also heard of someone who had a fram filter that had loose parts in it. I would go for Bosch, MOpar, Or AC Delco.

Message: Amsoil EaO is the best oil filter I have tried according to my oil analysis's.
However there isnt too big of a difference because there isnt a lot of filter. I've cut apart filters and I've yet to find anything that wasnt microscopic. Which wont matter too much because anything smaller then the oils film wont hurt anything.
There is a reason a VW bug could get 200k miles with NO filter. Proper maintenance and letting the oil warm up completely every time you drive is what makes the biggest difference.
I'd suggest research oil filters on bobistheoilguy.com there is tons if information there.
Buying something you feel is constructed better then the next filter is a good enough reason to use it. Fram also makes a lot of OEM filters too, I believe Honda uses a relabeled Fram and Subaru just recently started using a relabeled Fram (cut one apart today)...

Message: Yeah, I've alway heard/thought that Ansoil had a good filter too.
After reading one of the posts here years ago,
I often use a motorcraft, FL-1.
Not sure aobut the flow, but I've got over 146,000 miles on my 4.7, no problems.
I also usually use the
Wal mart brand of Super tech, they seem to work well too.
For about the first 60K, I used Wix- also supposed to be good.
Up until the lasst oil change, I've always used MObil 1.
As everyone agrees though, I rarely let it go over 5000 miles, usually about 3- 4000 before changes.

Message: ya know i read a post quite a while ago where some guy spent literally weeks pulling apart and measuring and analizing and inspecting the quality of dozens of oil filters, all of which he bought ..so he wasnt influenced by any mfgs and alot of the filters were close, the frams were not very good, but the purolater was a great filter well made good seal and i dont remember how many feet of filter but in comparison it was a very good filter, that was good enough for me i dumped my two frams even though they were fairly new and got two purolators....painted em camo and popped em on.from now on its purolator for me. I wish i remembered the post that led me to the site this guy did all the testing, it was fascinating.

Message: Funny how Fram filters have gotten my 92 Daytona to 300K miles with no problems at all, original engine; 180K miles on my Dakota; 288K miles on a friend's Daytona; 136K miles on my dad's Acclaim; 170K miles and 174K miles on two slant-6 vehicles; and 157K miles on my last Daytona. Yup, junk filter.
The "study" was a visual inspection and a comparison of construction, filter pleats and length. There was no chemical analysis to determine how effective these filters actually are. But the proof is in the results.

Until the last 7-8 years or so, I also used Frams, and never really had any engine failures.
