Message: I just got a flowmaster 40 series installed and it is too loud. Does anyone have a vortec muffler? The place I got it has the flowmaster and the vortec mufflers... I'm gonna go in tomorrow morning and have them change it... but I don't know what to... they don't have any flowmaster 50 series yet... does anyone like vortec?

Message: what do you mean it's too loud? i put on a a 40 series flow and i think it isn't loud enough. i think it is too mellow. if i didn't get it new for $20.00 i would have gotten a 10 series one chamber race muffler.

I don't mean out side... i mean inside... to loud for my tastes!
And it is all the stock piping, just a new muffler... does seem to run better though.

Message: I put a Flowmaster 40 series single in/dual out with 3 1/2 inch stainless tips on my Dak about 2 months ago, and i agree, it isnt loud enough! If it isnt rattling my brain, something is wrong. Although it does seem to like to rattle that stupid sunglasses holder in the console above my head :-)

Message: try adding headers and removing ur cats with ur 40 series and take off the little turn down pipe also just run headers with straightpipes to the muffler and no pipes after the muffler. this is wat i have on my r/t and it sound really hot. i tried putting the turndown tip on the muffler but it sounded quieter and worse.

Message: I have a Flowmaster 40 series on mine with thre Dynomax technology. It supposedly cuts down interior resonance. It still rumbles on the inside, but not as much as on the outside. I don't even need to gas it to set off car alarms.

Message: I have a 5.2, do you guys think I would get any kind of performace gains by leaving the stock piping and just replacing the muffler with a flowmaster muffler or should I buy a whole cat-back.

Message: There is no way you will gain 45 horsepower in that truck and definetley with it being stock. You should see performance gains of around 15 horsepower. As for the catback exhaust it is just fine to put just a muffler in. There is only a slight increase in power with the catback system.

Message: I've got a 2000 'Kota quadcab, 4.7, put a 40 series flow in place of the stock muffler, and put a turn down on it.
I like the sound, sometimes I don't think it's loud enough, but I do a lot of late night driving through housing areas, so it's probably best.
Inside noise isn't too bad, almost any volume on the radio covers it up. And it isn't annoying at highway speeds, more like hypnotizing.

Message: Make sure all your hangers are rubber mounted and none busted. take the pipe out beyond the bumper maybe 1/2 inch. use a turn down . turn downs are the only way to go for me . at night you can tell the exhaust is bouncing off the black top. nice

Message: I have a 2000 with the 4.7L. I have a Flowmaster 40 with dual side exhaust. I have 18x3 1/2" stainless pipes (resonators). There is no better sound. If you remove your "cat", there won't be any back-pressure, and you'll lose your bottom-end
