Message: Hey fellow truckers. To further enhance my need for speed, I bought a 1992 camaro Z28 this week, secondary to my awesome 2000 Dakota RT. It needs a little bit of work though and I wanted to know if anyone here might know about these cars. It has the 350 TPI and auto tranny.
Normally I would not post this here but I cannot find any camaro/firebird board that are worth a crap. So, please be gentle...
Email me if you would like with any tips.

Message: I had a 1987 GTA 3rd Gen F-body for a few years.
L98 350TPI 700R4 AUTO AUZZY Style Borg Warner Axle. 3:27 They run and Avg 6.5 to 7.2 0-60 and low 15's 1/4 Stock. 210hp-240hp unless you have the special SLP package.
Since I broke my rear end gears I has some 3.73's install! That made a good jump in performance.
Very Expensive
Remove the cat, that helps a ton on a 350TPI, now my R/T I can't say I notice as much gain.
Free
Hypertech chip does increase performance too.
$50-$100
Advance the timing by turning the dis-cap, just unscrew one bolt.
Free
Removed the smog pump and exhaust manifold and add some headers.
$100+
Install air foil to smooth out airflow in TPI Unit.
$50-100
Other options are larger TPI TB 52MM? Larger Runners for better upper RPM power.
I also had a shift kit, second gear bark everytime. I had a flowmaster muffler which sounded good. Just hope you fuel pump doesn't die, now that was a pain in the arse.
What else would you like to know?

Message: Anthony, thanx for the info. I need to know how to bring the idle down. When I start it up in the morning, it idles at about 1200 rpm, and really slams into gear when I go into drive. When it is warm, it still idles at about 850. I dont want to bust up the tranny. I think the TPS might be bad but am I missing anything?
Anthony, you are a big help. Thanks a bunch...
Feel free to email me directly so we dont piss off the rest of the Dakota heads (eventhough I am one myself).

Message: I got a 86 camaro with a 358 motor which is a bored 350. It makes a little over 500hp and it is done with a carb 670 street avenger.
The engine is right out of a CASCAR (Canadian assosiation of stock car auto racing.) They make 455hp or somthing close. I put on bow tie heads with bigger valves and a more aggressive cam. I added a weiland intake and a much bigger carb then cascar is allowed to run.
How does it drive.? Excellent. Engine is smooth. Shakes a bit at idle but once your moving its awsome. I can smoke any camaro ss or corvette and went nose to nose with a viper until 250km/h.
I can get 460km highway range on 63 liters of gas and about 300 in city. This is done with a T-10 tranny that has only 4 gears at 1 to 1 ratio.
You can get an engine like this for your camaro.
As far as using the stock 350 with tpi. I have a magazine around here with the ultimate combo for that engine. If i find it I will post what they say.

Message: Josh Lee. What tranny are you running.
If you got the Auto your ok but the 5 speed that the camaro came with in 92 has the strength of a paper clip. Any modifications to your engine will cook the gears in that 5 speed in no time.
My recommendation to you if you have the 5 speed borg and warner is to get a T-10 or a 5 or 6 speed tranny that is built a lot stronger. Check summit racing!!!

Message: 350CID come with AUTO's only at least the TransAM/Firebird came that way. 5speed could be had only with the 305.
Try adjusting the screw right behind the throttle cable tab on the TB driver side?, put your car into drive while having someone adjust the idle to 700-750rpm in drive.(warm engine) Having your idle already high (850)could cause even higher cold idling. Also check your PVC and any vacum hoses. Your system should be a MAP vs my 87 MAF type. Your TPS my be alittle off too.
You could always drop in a 160-180 T-stat then adjust the idle then, that way it wont have such a broad range of operating temp. More power too :>

Message: I'm a moderator over at firebird nation, which is and f-body website...better than rest since we have such a dedicated staff, but thats a different story for you to find out on your own. I would just like to say, I've been having the same problem, replaced my IAC valve, fuel filter, pick up assembly, and a wealth of other parts due my car dropping down to a 500RPM idle in drive. In park she idles fine. This solved my problem, and I would like to thank you.
