Message: I just got a fastman TB from Dan. Its a 68mm up from a 65. Dan does nice work. My pcm hasn't gotten used to all the new air yet. But when I crank it up it ROARS! It idles really well at 600rpms. I've barely put 20 miles on it since I installed it. Now i'm finding that my 360inakez seems a little to small (the inside of the TB is very ported out.) Putting the two side by side looks like night and day. He ports the entire shaft pretty dramatically and thins the plate. Since the 65mm is actually a 62mm because of obstructions in the shaft then I jumped 6mm! Wooohooo!

Hey if you don't and you have not yet sent out the old one just lay it next to it and take some pics lol
How long did it take to get the TB? (total time from the day you sent the check until the day you received the TB)
As you know I have a 68mm -3mm and wanna go to a 71mm. I'll have to wait a couple weeks though first.
You'll have to keep us posted

I haven't taken any side by side pics yet. I already put the new TB on so i'll have to hold the old one next to it and see how that works out.
It's not that the coupling is to small for the 360intakez. The outside diameter of the TB didn't change. The inside diameter is 6mm larger now than it was. Herein lies the problem. I'm gonna have to play with it this afternoon.

Was it easy R&R ing the thing?
I know you don't have too many miles on it yet but do you think the gain is worth the $200??
Thanks for being so informative on this sh!t I hate buying thing that I don't know what the results are going to be

Message: Glad I can be informative. I'm the same way about buying stuff. I barrage the seller with about a billion questions before I purchase anything. Its to soon to know if it was worth it. I've only put about 25 miles on it now (refer to first post). I have a feeling it will be though.
R&R was a little tricky until I figured out what tools I needed (had to borrow from my girls dad) then it was a breeze. I don't even think i'm that mechanicaly inclined.
I think the problem with the intake MAY be that the outside diameter of the intake tube may be just smaller than the inside diamter of the TB.
If it is it's noones fault but my own. We'll see. I may have to buy a new intake. Sh!t happens.

How about this idea? total cost, about $70 US (filter was $45 of it)
Try this

I also noticed he got rid if the (not knowing what they're called, I wanna say the ribs on the outside of the barrel) Now did you end up doing the "s" bolt trick?
CThomp, I completely understand, first ya spend a good chunk of money on a intake and the soon after it won't fit. But I'm guessing that's the only way you'll get the full effect.
A little off topic..
I eliminated my 3rd cat, before really thinking about it, and now (i still have it) I am going to gut it and see if the guy will re-install it for me. I don't want to void the warranty. I doubt they'll notice a Ported & polished TB. But when they hear the exhaust and look and see oe rusty pipe-14" new pipe back to oe rusty pipe, I'm sure they'll give me sh!t.
So on top of the $300 I not only have to gut it my self but I have to have it re-installed.

Message: Sucks about the 3rd cat. What about a free-flow? Bernd sells them for $90. Another 90 I know but still. Its somethin.
So I checked out the TB. The inside diameter of the TB is now just slightly larger than the outside diameter of the tube. Just slightly though. Not enough for the tub to slide through the TB shaft or anything like that.
Maybe i'll look into one of those new AirMax intakes down the road. I've been exchanging some e-mails with one of their service guys. I think his name was Mike Carter. He said that it dynoed between 12-14 h.p. He said it was all high end but still impressive. He also said they redesigned the helix powertower TB spacer. So now he says they function the way the are supposed to. He admitted they didn't function properly in the past though I've heard they do work on 4.7L's. Either way it'll cost somethin like $372.00 for the intake and spacer. So i'd like to see some dyno sheets before I spend that kind of money on an intake.

If you go any larger than 68mm on your TB the Intakez pipe will be smaller and need to be replaced. If I go with a larger Fastman who makes larger intakes..? I don't want a homemade.

Howdy: How'd you get a 4"? I'm gonna get the AirMax guy I talked with to send me some dyno sheets. I wish companies would understand how much of a selling point that is. I don't care all that much how something sounds. I want the performance. The fastman is a great looking TB though. Outside stock/inside ported. Pretty cool.

What do you think of the AirMax intakes? The tech said he dynoed their 4.7L intake at 12-14 h.p. at higher rpms. He also said the newly redesigned TB spacer (Helix power tower)was performing better than ever at lower rpms. I told him in an e-mail that he should post those dyno numbers on their web page to boost consumer confidence in their products.

Kinda like that movie Tommy Boy, I can sh!t in a box, and say it'll add 30hp, show you a couple of fake slips, you still going to buy it?
(I know that wasn't what was said in the movie but you get the idea)
Hey Bernd, you should look into an intake kit, I like that 4" Z-tube but I don't need the big mouth filter that goes with it, and I sure as hell, don't wanna spend $2-300 on another kit.

Thats what I was talking about with the dyno sheets. He said they dyno run all their products before marketing them. So i'm trying to get him to back up his words with some real numbers via the dyno sheets. I gave him a pretty good marketing speel about consumer needs (maybe I really should have been a salesman lol). I guess we'll see.

The TB is really starting to do its thing. I've picked up a significant amount of low end. I normally start in 2nd gear (3.92's in flat S. Fl.) so the torque is very noticable. When I start it up in the morning i've got some insta- roar goin on. Idles at a very very consistent 600 rpm's. WOT sounds very cool and I threw my girls head back already. So far well worth the money.

Message: I was over at Joe's garage last night (360airintakez) having some stuff powdercoated before the Nats, and mentioned this thread to him.
His 4.7L tubes are currently 3" OD, which were fine for the stock throttle bodies. He will either be upgrading all of his 4.7L tubes to 3.5" OD or else make a 3.5" OD tube available as an option for those of you with 4.7L engines that upgraded your throttle bodies to 68mm or 70mm (and if 3.5" OD isn't large enough he can get 4" OD tubes)
If you have upgraded your throttle body and want a bigger tube, give Joe a call or send him an e-mail (his website is www.360airintakez.com) just to let him know you're interested in this.
I still think his intakes are the best bang for the buck as far as the whole package goes (including appearance).

There was this cotton type fiber stuff that was against the walls of the cat, my boss told me that was to keep the inside of the cat from rattling.
My boss told me there is also platinum and sometimes gold in those things, so I got out a magnet and swiped it along the pile of mess. lol to bad, no luck, hehe at least I tried.
With my intake, it used to have a real good roar sound to it, but I don't hear it now over the exhaust. while at a cruise we'll say 25mph, and I snap the throttle you hear a little vacuum from the intake then the loud exhaust.

When I received mine and installed it I e-mailed him about the size of the pipe,(3") being to small. About the same size of the ID of the 68mm TB. All he has to do is use larger exhaust tubing. No response.
Maybe he will give a deal to us with stock 68mm throttle body's that bought the 3" Intakez.
I will gladly send mine back for a larger one and he could make us a deal on the price.

3" = 76.20mm
68mm = 2.68"
Wouldn't the 3" ID be big enough even for a 72mm?

I'm pretty sure CW has a homemade z-tube. the 4" z-tube costs 250.00 from speedtweaks. I can't remember if that has shipping or not. To many decisions.
