Subject: trans problems?
IP: Logged

Message:
I recently purchased a '97 Dakota Club Cab 2WD with a 3.9 liter and automatic overdrive trans. The problems I am having are the trans has erratic downshifts after a cold start. After it warms up some the transmission doesn't seem to downshift at all, it will barely pull up a hill, I have to manually downshift to get it to go. The engine also will make a horrible dieseling sound when idling at a red light or backing out of my driveway. The last problem I am having is the engine stalls when placed into gear, especially reverse. To make matters worse, all of these problems are intermittent making them very hard to diagnose. Any advice before I go to the dealership?

Have you checked for trouble codes? Key on/off three times and wait for the code. ie. Flash flash Pause flash flash flash =23 etc.

Thanks for the response. I tried the key on/off check like you suggested and no trouble codes flashed. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
