Message: I'm getting ready to do a muffler for my 4.7. From what I've read here and at speedtweeks, it sounds like performance is as good or better with single pipe exhaust. Everybody has their personal taste when it comes to exhaust tone. I've been to www.flowmastermufflers.com and can hear sound clips. I'm going with a 50 series, using as much stock pipe as possible and adding a tip for looks. Muffler $70, install $50, tip $20. Job done for $140 not $350.

Message: Ya,
but Out of those 3 options.. *Buying a pre fabricated catback, or having one built from a local dealer... or just gettting a free flowing muffler put in....
What is the best way to go with???
That is pretty much the only thing that is holding me back from getting my exhaust done... Im not quite sure which is the best way to go.

Message: I put a flowmaster- terminater "bite-me" muffler on mt 96 3.9 4x4 short bed. 2 1/2 in, 2 1/2 out and a 3 inch internal chamber. sounds good, not overly agressive, aluminized 1/8" shell, lifetime warrenty. Get it at Auto Zone.69.95. got it overnight express order.

Message: Go with the catback system, ( especially if you live in a snowy state. The salt will rust out the aluminized mufflers in a couple years)
I like the Gibson, not only is it the best in performance wise but it also comes with an option of STAINLESS STEEL. It won't be rusting out anytime soon folks. The gibson can be found for $420 and it is easy enough to put on yourself. Plus it will last you forever.
However this is just my opinion.

Message: Cal Dak,
So you went with the Gibson Catback 3" side exit ? What sound/performance did you notice?

Message: I also went with a Gibson stainless steel, swept-side cat-back system. There was an immediate & definite performance gain!! However, I have to say that I think that my performance gain was actually a combination of my Fastman throttle body & the cat-back....more gases out = more gases in.
As for sound, the Gibson has a pretty aggressive V8 rumble to it. At cruising speeds (with overdrive on), it quiets down nicely...very little noise intrusion in the cab. But on WOT, it wakes up & announces its presence. And my personal favorite is the addition of that lovely V8 cackle on deceleration/down-shifting!
All in all, it was an awesome mod. Love the sound. Love the performance.

Message: Halo3,
How do you think the gibson would sound on a v6 ?? Do you think it would have somewhat of a significant sound change as you saw on yours ?
thanx..

Message: Yeah. I'm pretty sure that it would. As the exhaust system is specifically researched & developed for each engine/application, it stands to reason that Gibson would want to make the best sounding & best performing exhaust that they can. After all, why else are they in the business?!?
I'll admit the $420 price tag on mine made me balk a little bit, but a couple of things got me through that:
1.) I had heard how the Gibson swept-side exhaust sounded on a 4.7L
2.) I had seen various pictures of thier exhaust kits. And in seeing those pictures, I had confirmed that they use mandrel bending to ensure that the exhaust system doesn't have any undue restrictions in its bends.
3.) And a couple of old creedos, "you get what you pay for" and "you only live once!"
