Subject: 2000 PCM for 5.9L IP: Logged
Message: Does anybody know the actual performance increases of the Mopar Performance PCM for 2000 5.9L Dakotas? Are these dyno numbers or something read somewhere? I seen where the 5.9 is suppose to gain 28 hp and 26 lb.-ft., but I'm not sure if I can believe this. Thanks.

Message: Well.. here's the answer:
Maybe. Most trucks will benefit from the advanced timing, others will run about the same... to a point. Remember with stock trucks, there's SLOW trucks, middle of the road, and FAST ones... I would say my 2000 is a middle of the road. With the PCM, it says to run 91+ octane... With my truck, I've run 87 octane since I got the PCM. No pinging (I am running colder plugs, and I did install headers). A couple of things the PCM will definately do for all trucks:
1) Removed top speed limiter (from ~112 mph stock)
2) Moved fuel cut off from 5200 rpm to 6000+ rpm
3) Shift point bumps from 4800 rpm WOT to 5300 rpm WOT
4) AC compressor cuts out sooner (giving more HP) than stock.
Without the MP PCM, you cannot take full advantage of the M1 intake (shift point too low, and you cannot reach peak HP before fuel cut off!).
Actual HP increase stock vs. MP PCM... probably not more than 10 hp (you can feel a difference, but nothing extreme-- disappointing because my '99 with PCM was the same way--- ALAS! My '95 was night/day difference, and required 93 or 91 & 104+ booster to stop from pinging). I think that DC went conservative on the 99 and up MP PCMs... The B&G might be a better choice.
FYI-- I have a stock '00 RT PCM forsale, works fine, already have a spare. Would be a good candidate for a B&G reprogram (and still keep your stock PCM-- I had a MP PCM go bad on my 2000-- good thing I still had my stocker!)
I'm asking $150.00 and I'll pay shipping.

Message: My 2000 R/T has pretty much one mod (well two now that I've moved the IAT). That was a used MP PCM. I don't have any dynos or times to show the difference (although I'll past differences with it on/off once I get my Tazzo) but the old seat dyno says its a lot faster. The big thing is the addition of the timing advance and the rasing of the shift points. Even if the stock 360 is starting to lose its torque at 4800 when it would normally shift, it's still better to have the mechanical advantage 1st gear (and then 2nd) offers, rather then give up the gear advantge to get back into the power curve. The truck will spin the tires much easier on a launch (probably the timing advance) and will bark the tires good on the shift (probably due to the higher shift point). It is really necessary when you add more mods or you may not even notice any advantage from the other mods. It's pretty much a great place to start with an otherwise stock truck. The butt dyno says it's got to be more then 10hp, but maybe not as much as 28hp, although that seems possible.

Message: You can get the Mopar PCM from most any dealership if you want to pay full price :(
You can try www.krcperformance.com and they should be able to hook you up.
