Message: Follow your upper radiator hose to the top of the engine. The hose slips over the thermostat housing. You can remove the hose by loosening the clamp or leave it on.
Their will be 2 bolts holding the thermostat housing to the engine. Remove these 2 bolts.
Notice the position of the thermostat. Remove the thermostat. Stuff a rag in the opening of the engine and scrape off the old gasket. Scrape off any gasket on the thermostat housing.
Install the new thermostat the same way the old one came out. Put a little grease on the housing to hold the gasket in place. Bolt everything back up the same way it came off.
Make sure your radiator is full, crank it up, let it get warm and check for leaks. You should'nt have any.

Message: Yes it will, but not enough to fail your emmisions test. A hotter engine will burn cleaner but not perform better.

Message: Change it out, you will not fail the test. The trucks run so clean to begin with it should not be an issue.

Message: Hay kota 318 where in cali are from? I live in the Sac area. As in to your smog question I don't think you should have any problems passing smog. Just to give you an example, I had to smog my sixer last june and I have a v-8 tb, modified intake man, 180 stat, jet st2, homebrew intake, custem 2 1/4 y-pipe, flow dl ex, with the stoke cat and I took it to friends shop and had him do a pre-test. It was burning cleaner than it did the first time i had to smog it. And the first time I did not have all the engine mods.

Message: You can most likely get a gasket at kragons.
As in the jet, the first one I ordered worked alright for about 5 months, until it self destructed. I called jet to tell them the problem and they told me to send it back with as much info on my truck as possible. So I did and the new chip worked great! Good power, good torque and overall performance. And most important for me since I open track roadrace my Dak is that the speed limiter has been eliminated. Two weeks ago I was comming from my parents house in the bay area and as I came towards hwy80, some guy in a prelude wanted to run, so we did. There was a point where we were just about side by side, I was turning about 4300rpm and my speedo was burried. I do not have any idea how fast we were going but it had to be close to 130 or so. he eventually pulled slowly away. That damm ricer was fast!!

Message: the gasket I got from the dealer is stock. Auto Zone didnt have one. Just change it for a new one. If you reuse it, you run risk of a leak. be sure to scrape old one away completly!
