Subject: B&G Custom Flash = WoW! IP: Logged
Message: I sent my 01 PCM off to B&G Chrysler in Michigan to have them do a custom flash and I can say now it has made the single best improvement to my truck. They have two versions; the M1 flash for those that want the max out of their trucks and a non M1 flash. I got the M1 flash which is:
Remove Torque Management (01 and up)
Increase Fuel Cutoff 1500rpm (essentially eliminating it) 7000 rpm
Increase Shift Points from 4800rpm to 5400rpm
Increase slow speed shift points to 2500
Increase Speed Limiter from 115mph to 135mph
Adjust fuel/spark curve for additional power (now requires premium) 36 degree advance
Flash is completely transparent at idle for emissions testing
1.0+ gain in 0-60 times QC 5.9 (I can say this is true)
I can now roast my tires all the way down the street, shifts are much quicker, and truck seems to react much better to you stepping on the gas. It's ready to race no matter what gear your in or how fast your going. If you have an extra $500-600 bucks and want to make your truck a second quicker (this includes the 01 pcms) give Dave Kasper a call 586-758-2003. I think they are fixing to stop doing these due to DC not wanting the liability out there. This is supposed to be the most aggresive program available on the 01s and a little more aggresive then the mopar pcms.

the flash would be putting out the power of a supercharger!
this is not a flame, i just dont understand

Message: That sounds pretty awesome R/Truck,,you gonna dyno it for us?
I would like to see what 'real-world' gains it gives the 4.7.
I also feel bad about throwing $600 at a flash that could be 'accidently' over written at the dealer. I would feel safer w/a chip like ASE has. I don't doubt their flash rocks,,,but it seems like it could be too easily 'cured' by the dealer if you know what I mean.

Message: I think the 01 dakotas with the 5.9L will gain the most due to Dodge knocking off so much timming with the torque managment crap. There was a group buy on dodgetrucks.org a week ago and everyone says it does make a major improvement (1 second 0-60). The ASE chip just doesn't prove itself, they still have not done a dyno test on the chip, all their results are based on computer simulation.
I was a bit skeptical until I got the PCM in my truck, believe me it made a second difference. NO question in my mind the truck is much much faster then before. If you label the computer and secure the wires with tags and warn the dealer the do not have a problem with the custom flash and will not touch it.
There was a guy that had the ASE chip and then got the B&G flash and he said it was like night and day. Nothing compares to the custom flash.
4.7 guys will not gain as much and the standards will gain almost nothing. So this is more for the 5.9L guys.

Message: I was seriously thinkin about goin w/ B&G over Kenne Bell but it was twice as much and I could tell I got some power out of the Kenne Bell & the shift points were improved, rev limit to 6000 & speed limiter to 135 like B&G. For $350 they didn't do a bad job, wish I had 2 from each company side by side to really see what the difference would be.

Message: If they said their programming doesn't work on a 4.7 then believe them. Then it sounds to me like B&G probably wouldn't be the place to send your 4.7's PCM. I don't think I would write off the other sources of reprogramming just because B&G doesn't have a good program!
I just love all this "nothing works on a 4.7" kind of talk! hahahaha
Somebody better tell that to my buddy..... his 4.7 with just a reprogrammed PCM, a cold air intake and my ET Streets has clicked off some 14.30s here in the Arizona heat. We all know that a cold air intake doesn't do that much. Hmmmm, I wonder what made it go so fast? hahaha Could it have been the PCM? Nahhhhh, I heard those don't do anything! ROTFLMAO

Message: I talked to the guy about the Torque Management and its somethin Chrysler put into the PCM that watches how much torque is being distributed to the tranny. Taking it off he said was like a kick in the pants, its like you get the full potential the engine produces and all of it goes to the tranny and to the wheels increasing power.

Message: At least B&G is honest and tells you what they can and can't do. The torque management actually decreases your timming so you don't take off as fast. That's a killer if you want to burst off the line or just spin your tires.
I'm not being paid to speak for them, I just had a very good result on my truck. If your willing to pay the price to have (IMHO) one of the best programs for your 5.9L this is it.
I'm sorry it doesn't work well on the 4.7L I don't know why, he can program anything into the computer (unlimited timming advance). Maybe the 4.7L is just tweaked out pretty good from the factory. That is why the 5.9L responds so well to his timming advance, Dodge sent them out running like a dog to begin with.
Another thing, if you can get the mopar pcm (2000 and older) it is probably the best value for you.

Message: Supposedly the B&G flash is more aggressive than the Mopar PCM flash, especially if you get his "M1 Flash" (per B&G). I don't know the specifics of the Mopar PCM to know for sure.
The main point? You have a 99. People like me who have 2001+ trucks really don't have a choice. I've spoken to ASE and Kenne Bell and their flashes don't do as much as the B&G flash does. I haven't spoken to Mike Leach since they don't have a website for me to lookup their information, but aside from the fact that they do a lot of customization for blowers and such I don't think they have a canned 2001+ flash that works well either.
I'll let you know here soon how the B&G flash does... I figured it was worth the extra $150 to see the differences.
